Kelly Rutherford, the legendary 56-year-old Gossip Girl star, was spotted at the 2025 Paris Fashion Week with her rarely-seen son, Hermés Gustaf Daniel Giersch. Hosted at the Palais de Tokyo, the mother-son duo attended the grand event on March 8.
Kelly Rutherford is the mother of two children, a son and a daughter. Over the weekend, the talented actress was seen with her teenage son at the Elie Saab Fall 2025 Show, according to People.com.
This was one of their recent appearances in Paris following the Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2025 show last month. After a long legal battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Giersch, Kelly and Hermés’s appearance in January marked their first public outing together in nearly a decade.
Everything we know about Kelly Rutherford’s children
Kelly Rutherford married Daniel Giersch in 2006 and welcomed his first son, Hermés, on October 18, 2006. The renowned actress became pregnant for the second time with her ex-husband but initiated her divorce proceedings just three months into her pregnancy. She gave birth to their second child, Helena Grace Rutherford Giersch, on June 8, 2009. As of now, Hermés is 18 years, and Helena is 15.
Until 2012, their children were raised in Los Angeles. However, they relocated to Monaco that year after their father's U.S. work visa was canceled. At the time, Hermés was five years old, and Helena was two.
While the children were growing up in Monaco, their parents were involved in an ongoing legal custody dispute. In the 2010s, a source spoke with People.com about the kids' lives, revealing:
"They play tennis at the Monte Carlo Country Club, have friends, snorkel and play at the beach."
Sharing more about elders who stayed with them, the source added,
"They just enjoy the surroundings with their grandma, grandpa and father’s undivided attention."
Kelly Rutherford and Daniel Giersch divorced in 2009 and engaged in a strenuous legal custody battle for years. During the court proceedings, the actress shared her thoughts with People.com, stating:
"I’ve always wanted my kids to have a relationship with him, and I’ve really only encouraged that all along. When I went into court, I never asked for money, and I never asked for full custody. I just wanted what was right for them and their well-being moving forward. And what happened over the next six years was the most surreal, bizarre, unimaginable thing."
Who won the custody dispute?
Before the final ruling, a judge decided in 2015 that Kelly's son and daughter could stay with her in the U.S. during the summer. However, she was required to send Hermés and Helena back to their home in Europe afterward. Kelly refused to do so, stating:
"No state in this country currently requires me to send the children away. Hence, I have decided that I cannot lawfully send my children away from the United States to live in a foreign country."
Rutherford and Giersch's legal conflict continued for another three months. Ultimately, full custody was granted to the children's father, and Kelly was legally prohibited from bringing them to the U.S. The court determined that the children should reside with their father in Monaco, while Rutherford was given visitation rights. This decision followed a long and complex custody battle that involved multiple court rulings in both the U.S. and Monaco.

In 2024, Kelly Rutherford reflected on her struggles over the years in an interview with People.com. She shared:
"A lot of people haven’t gone through what I’ve gone through, but they still have challenging relationships with their kids. But at the same time, you heal, you grow."
Rutherford feels thankful seeing her children growing up and doing well.
