Jeff Sperbeck has passed away after succumbed to his injuries in a traumatic golf cart accident over the weekend in La Quinta, California. He was 62.
According to a report in The Guardian, the Riverside County coroner’s office said Sperbeck was injured on April 26, 2025, after he fell from a golf cart. Eyewitness Ali Simon told KESQ-TV of Palm Springs that she saw a man lying on the ground surrounded by people while John Elway, who was at the scene, was on the phone.
He was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he was kept on life support, before he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. on April 30, 2025, per the officials, stated a report in the Red Bluff Daily News.
During his football career, Sperbeck served as Elway’s NFL agent and business partner. According to The Guardian, he represented more than 100 NFL players during a three-decade career. He also helped Elway manage his restaurants, car dealerships, and a winery, 7Cellars, which they co-founded in 2015.

Jeff Sperbeck is survived by his wife Cori and children Carly, Sam, and Jackson. According to the Nob Hill Gazette, Sperbeck was born and raised in Sacramento, California. His late father, Dick was a high school football coaching legend.
He was a quarterback at Jesuit High School in Sacramento and attended California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo, according to the Nob Hill Gazette.
He had two siblings, Marshall and Stacey. Marshall also quarterbacked at Christian Brothers and then Valley High School. He then worked as a coach for Foothill College and Sacramento State. His sister married former New York Jets quarterback Ken O’Brien.
In the late 1980s, Sperbeck started working as an agent in the Bay Area, where he opened the CLS Sports agency. Ronnie Lott and Roger Craig were among his first clients before he connected with Elway in the ‘90s.
Remembering Jeff Sperbeck upon his sudden demise, his family shared a statement stating that they are “devastated” by the news, and noted that “he was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend to many and will be profoundly missed by all.”
The statement added:
“We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends the Elways and the many other clients Jeff called friends. We are grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support that we have received and ask for privacy for our family at this difficult time.”
Being devastated by his friend’s death, Elway said in a statement:
“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck. There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.”
He further added,
“My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.”
According to the reports, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating his case, and is reportedly in its preliminary stages. Since the accident occurred in a private community and does not involve a regular vehicle, standard traffic laws may not apply.
