Billy Corgan's mother-in-law and wife Chloe Mendel's mother took some serious hits on Wednesday after a car crashed into his tea house, Madame ZuZu’s, in Highland Park, Illinois.

Chloe Mendel, a fashion designer who has been with Corgan for over a decade, took to Instagram on Corgan's official account to reveal the news. In the post, she revealed that her mother was spending the day there with their son, Augustus, and only she sustained injuries.

Billy Corgan says he likes to keep his private life private

According to People Magazine, Billy Corban and Chloe Mendel met and began seeing each other in 2012. While they kept things on the down-low for a while, they directly shocked fans with the news of two new additions to their family. Their two children, Augustus and Philomena, were born in 2015 and 2018, respectively.

While they spent a decade together co-parenting, they decided to move on to calling each other fiancé and fiancée on Chloe's 30th birthday bash. By September 2023, they were officially man and wife, as they had their nuptials in their home in Highland Park, Illinois.

In speaking about their relationship, Billy Corgan told Screen Rant in May 2024,

"We’ve been very quiet in public about our relationship because we always considered it a private matter between us. It is interesting, for the first time after a 12-year relationship, to open the doors and not only show one of the most intimate moments of our lives in getting married, but to also show our actual dynamic.”

In the Instagram post, Chloe stated:

"This afternoon at Madame Zuzu’s, a car (in circumstances which remain under investigation) drove over the curb and into Madame Zuzu’s, crashing through the window and sadly injuring one person – my mother, Jenny; who was spending the day and lunching with my son Augustus. Thankfully, he was able to leap out of the way and was not injured."

Her statement went on:

"Our family is grateful for the swift assistance of the Highland Park and Deerfield first responders. To this, Madame Zuzu’s will be closed until further notice and we’ll provide updates as we move forward. Thank you for your support and understanding.”

Billy Corgan first opened the shop in Ravinia, a Chicago neighborhood, in 2012. However, in 2018, they decided to close up shop. Two years later, the husband-wife duo gave Madame Zuzu's a shot again, reopening it where it stands today.

According to CBS News, the driver of the car that crashed, a red Mini Cooper, also sustained injuries and was consequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
