Kellie Pickler's in-laws are unhappy with her apparent "lack of sympathy" as the legal dispute over the late Kyle Jacobs' estate rages on.

Jacobs died by suicide at the age of 49 in February 2023. He was a singer-songwriter known for working with Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw. Since then, Pickler and his parents, Sharon and Reed Jacobs, have been fighting for the estate in court.

According to documents obtained by Us Weekly, the Jacobs' are slamming their son's widow for making it challenging to get anything done since he died. Shortly after Kyle's demise, Kellie, 36, declined to serve as the administrator of his estate, with the role going to his parents instead.

Kellie Pickler and her in-laws' legal woes explored

In the latest court filing, Sharon and Reed's attorney penned:

“It is difficult to know how to respond once again to the latest vitriol in [Kellie’s court filing]." Sharon and Reed are “the proud parents of a son who grew into a highly successful, talent … songwriter … who tragically took his life at a young age."

In August 2024, Kyle Jacobs' parents petitioned the court to lend a hand in acquiring the remainder of his property from Kellie Pickler, as the country singer claimed there was a “dispute” over the estate.

However, as reported by the outlet, Jacobs' parents responded by defending their intention to act efficiently:

“To suggest that his parents’ actions here could be perceived as anything other than an effort to bring his sad chapter (the probate process) to a speedy close is shockingly callous and lacking in empathy.”

The Jacobs' lawyers also petitioned the court to acknowledge that:

Kellie Pickler’s “continued invective in suggesting that [Reed and Sharon] (or any parent of a deceased child) would utilize the judicial process in such a way that serves only to prolong their suffering and anguish.”
“[Kellie] has taken what should have been a simple matter and turned it into a highly personal crucible, painting herself as the tragic victim,” the statement continued.

Kellie Pickler's dispute with her in-laws commenced in May 2023. At the time, she allegedly gave them the inventory of Kyle’s property, though they allegedly stopped cooperating with her shortly after:

“Over the course of the ensuing twelve months, [Reed and Sharon] attempted informally to recover those items through discussions with [Kellie] and her counsel; those efforts; however, had limited success,” the Jacobs' legal representation said in the filing. Pickler “agreed to turn over several items but had not done so. In addition, as to at least some of the items, [Kellie] admitted having them but subsequently maintained she could not find them.”

As reported by The Daily Mail, in March 2025, Kellie's in-laws attempted to subpoena Harpeth Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Cremation Center to gain more knowledge about their son's funeral and cremation arrangements:

They also requested that the funeral home shed light on "what items, if any, were cremated," alongisde "documents pertaining to the services provided on behalf of Kyle."

However, as reported by the outlet, they claimed the company failed to acknowledge the subpoena.

In their recent court filing, the Jacobs' lawyers also accused the country singer of not allowing them to enter her and their son's shared home, alleging that they only visited the house once, after he died. Picker and Kyle tied the knot in 2011 and were married until his demise:

"Instead, on two subsequent occasions, [Kellie] insisted she would have items of personal property moved to the home’s garage, for subsequent pickup by [Reed and Sharon] under supervision arranged by [Kellie],' their attorney shared. 'On the first such occasion, [Kellie] forbade [Sharon] from being on the property."

According to Us Weekly, Sharon and Reed claimed that Kellie Pickler handed over additional items after she was subpoenaed, but alleged that they have since come to an 'impasse.'

Per The Daily Mail, Kellie Pickler sold the home she shared with her late husband in May 2024 for $2.3 million. She recently petitioned the court to remove her in-laws as administrators of Kyle’s estate, and that she be named the sole heir and beneficiary of the same instead.

At the time of writing, the court has yet to reach a decision on the matter, though Sharon and Reed are looking to continue serving as administrators.
