Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers are reportedly likely to separate after a divorce petition was filed on Monday, July 7. The couple first met in 2017 and got married the following year. If the court approves the divorce, it will conclude their marriage of over six years.
The divorce filing initiated by Aaron Phypers, which comes just three days after their separation (July 4) on Independence Day, at Los Angeles' Stanley Mosk Courthouse, according to TMZ and US Weekly.
According to the court documents, Denise Richards was responsible for defraying the costs of their needs and amenities through her monthly income (alleged to be approximately $250,000). As per US Weekly, Phypers has quoted "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for wanting the divorce and has asked for spousal support from Richards.
A brief history of Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers' relationship
The duo first met in 2017 at Aaron Phypers' wellness clinic, Quantum 360, and their relationship took off almost immediately. They formalized their relationship later in the year through an announcement and got engaged in January 2018 (though they kept it private until their wedding).
The two fell in love, and what transpired shortly thereafter were wedding celebrations. The lovebirds married on September 8, 2018, in Malibu, a few days after breaking the news of the engagement. It was a local affair, and only family (including three daughters of Denise Richards, namely Eloise, Lola, and Sami) and close relatives got the invitation, and even appeared in the TV series, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Their relationship, however, has not been without its share of public scrutiny and controversy. Glanville, in July 2020, claimed to have slept with Richards, and also alleged that the couple were in an open marriage. Richards denied the allegations.
However, the two remained united in showing their support for each other, an approach that was on display several times during their relationship. Denise Richards showered her better half with praise in public as recently as May, when in an interview with Bravo's Daily Dish, she stated:
"We like being with each other. He’s my best friend too and we just really enjoy each other’s company. I tell every couple, especially with kids, if you could just do one night, at least a month, where you have a staycation where you can shut down and be with just each other, I think that helps so much with marriages or couples who have children."
Denise Richards does not share any biological children with Aaron Phypers, and Richards' eldest daughter, Sami Sheen, has previously admitted to being unattached to her stepdad. According to the documents, Phypers has also faced a lot of legal issues in recent years, and currently does not have an income after he had to close his wellness clinic.
More details are still awaited to emerge about their separation.
