Kylian Mbappe and Orselsan reportedly got into a feud last week, after Mbappe's team, Stade Malherbe Caen, faced serious financial trouble that led to staff layoffs. Mbappe purchased the club in the summer of 2024, and since then, the club has been facing difficulties.
Rapper Orelsan, who is also the club's most famous supporter, in his track La Petite Voix, aimed at Mbappe and said,
"You're going to sink in your city like the Mbappe's"
The Real Madrid star was quick to notice the track and took to his X account to respond, saying,
"You're invited to 'save' the city you love so much, Orelsan. P.S.: The guy begged us to let him in for 1% without paying because he's broke, but wanted to look like Normandy's golden boy."
"I don't really feel like responding," says Orelsan to Kylian Mbappe's tweet
In a recent interview, Orelsan was asked about Kylian Mbappe's tweet. He called their feud a "misunderstanding",
"I don't really feel like responding. I'm still in the heat of the moment and I don't really want to talk about it. It's a misunderstanding. I think I just need to properly explain the concept of the album."
When talking about the track, Orelsan explained,
"These negative things form a kind of inner voice - an inner critic - that starts to eat away at me and only see the bad. It's a big theme of the album."
When Kylian Mbappe bought Caen, he became the youngest majority shareholder in the French football industry. However, his management team has faced criticism after the club dropped to tenth position in the National, France's third tier. Rapper Orelsan is a long-time fan of the Normandy city team and grew up in Caen.
After Mbappe bought an 80% stake in the French club, it entered turbulence mode. Mbappe appointed Hammod, a former Premier Padel President, as president of SM Caen, and Nicolas Seube, club legend with 17 years of service in French football, was dismissed.
The club laid off sixteen employees and crashed in its first season under Mbappe's ownership. The club now operates with just 68 employees, and sits mid-table, 10th after 12 matches.
The team suffered six consecutive defeats under their new coach, Baltazar, who has scant experience in football. Baltazar had just left Polish football after failing to meet expectations. Fans are notably disappointed with the club's functionality and its position in football.
