Internet personality DJ Akademiks and journalist Elliott Wilson have recently made certain claims about the feud between Drake and Future. During an episode of The Bigger Picture, Wilson claimed that the two rappers had resolved their rivalry and had reconciled. He said:

“Drake and Future gotten on the phone and it resolved their differences.”

The journalist suggested that the truce might have been influenced by Young Thug’s recent social media post, where he encouraged Drake, Future, and Metro Boomin to reconcile. In October 2024, before his release from jail following a plea deal in his extended YSL RICO case, Thugger posted on X, calling them “brothers” and expressing that music wasn’t the same without their collaborations.

Elliott Wilson observed that Future’s repost of Young Thug’s message likely helped ease the tension. Although Thug mentioned Metro Boomin in his post, Wilson noted that Metro was not involved in the peace efforts, joking that there was still a lack of trust between him and the others.

However, contradicting Wilson’s claim, DJ Akademiks said during a live stream on November 2, 2024, that it was not true. He mentioned that the two rappers have not connected over the phone, as per his sources. According to DJ Akademiks,

“Big shoutout to my man Elliott Wilson, but with all due respect, I have spoken to extremely credible sources on both sides, and Drake and Future has not been on the phone. So, not too sure who gave Elliott Wilson the authority to say this, but from what I hear that is not true, that is a 100% cap. Now, I’m not gonna say Elliott Wilson is contorting or misrepresenting.”

DJ Akademiks cited the reason Elliott Wilson’s claim might be untrue

DJ Akademiks clarified that despite how promising the news sounded and the media's widespread coverage, there was a reason neither Drake nor Future had confirmed it: they hadn’t reconciled yet.

He added that while it might still happen eventually and was something he, along with fans, hoped for, his sources indicated that the two had not fully mended their relationship as of now.

Elliott Wilson pointed out that reconciliation between Drake and Future wasn’t unexpected, considering that Drake had avoided directly dissing Future, unlike his harsher lines toward Kendrick Lamar and other targets on For All the Dogs.

On Family Matters, Drake expressed frustration but suggested that their issues hadn’t been as deep while blaming Metro for causing tension. Wilson concluded that, given Drake and Future’s shared history, it was logical they would eventually find common ground.

Tension between Drake and Future began in November 2011 when they collaborated on Future's Tony Montana remix. Drake's decision not to appear in the music video disappointed Future.

In an interview with The Source TV, Future expressed that Drake’s absence felt like a slap in the face, especially since he had chosen Drake over several Atlanta-based artists eager to join the track. This was followed by more tension between the two rappers.
