Following its overwhelming success, Sinners is returning to IMAX 70mm screens for a week this month. An official post from @IMAX on Thursday, May 1, revealed the ticket sales and locations for the upcoming run.
The re-release gives fans another chance to witness the modern classic in arguably the best way possible. However, @FilmUpdates posted a rather anticlimactic update regarding Sinners’ re-run. The X account revealed that the forthcoming IMAX screenings had been sold out, resulting in AMC’s website crashing.

The update was quite disappointing for many, as netizens expressed their desire to watch the Ryan Coogler-directed horror film on the IMAX 70mm screens. A user shared a “Wes Fall GIF” and demanded the re-run be extended by another week,
“The way the website was crashing before It even sold out. We need another week!
Someone else posted an “Angry Kid GIF” and wrote,
“the way i still haven’t seen it in 70mm imax because yall are SELLING IT OUT”

The Hailee Steinfeld and Michael B. Jordan starrer earned much acclaim during its initial theatrical run, with many lauding how the film played out on IMAX 70mm screens. The online buzz led to the re-release, which is happening in May. However, the tickets reportedly being sold out — and AMC’s website crashing — received many reactions on X.

“Nice! Now that is what demand really looks like. Time to open up more screens,” another user expressed.
“Need them to add more I ain’t even get to cop a ticket🤦🏾♂️,” someone shared.

Last week, Ryan Coogler opened up about Sinners during an interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now! The filmmaker reflected on the opportunity to explore his Mississippi roots through the project.
During the conversation, the Black Panther director identified himself as a foundational Black American and shared how his MCU projects allowed him to explore his distant ancestry — while his recent horror film prompted research into his more recent lineage.
Coogler had previously shared his regret on The Breakfast Club about ignoring history as a descendant of formerly enslaved Black people.
