Danish Director Per Holst has reportedly diedat 86, as confirmed by one of his children, actor Morten Holst, per Hollywood Reporter. Holst's passing first came to light when Danish news outlet V2 revealed that Morten noted that his father had died peacefully on the morning of August 23. The news outlets reported that the cause of his death was not disclosed.

According to the Wrap, Holst was the director of many high grossing Danish movies, including Walter and Carlo—Up on Daddy’s Hat. He is reportedly survived by his wife, Kristina Møller and four children, Morten, Søren, Jesper, and Anders.

Danish Director Per Holst dies at 86

Per Holst was reportedly a notable figure in the Danish film industry. According to V2, the news of his death was confirmed by his son, Anders, who paid tribute to his father's legacy. He told the news outlet,

"He leaves behind a cultural legacy that we are proud of on his behalf."

From making his breakthrough as a cartoon producer of Benny's Bathtub (1971), to chairing the board of the European Film College, Holst's career spanned decades. Some other notable movies he has been credited for include The Element of Crime, Zappa, Twist & Shout, Pelle the Conqueror, and many more, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

V2 reported that Holst founded Asta Film, a company that helps "emerging and established talents" from Denmark find the spotlight. According to the official website, it was founded by Holst in 2002, and in 2017, his son Morten and Pelle Folmer joined as co-owners and producers. Remembering his father's dedication and love for the movies, Anders told V2,

"He has been active until the end. Of course not like in his youth, but to the extent he could. He loved to read, watch and talk about films."

Danish director Per Holst reportedly died peacefully earlier this week. His family remembers him for his love of movies and his contributions to the Danish film industry.
