Playboi Carti paid his respects to Michael Jackson during his recent performance in New York City this week, and the internet is reacting with amusement.

As seen in photos circulating online, the Atlanta rapper took to the stage in NYC on Thursday, November 7, clad in a legendary Michael Jackson outfit. He had the iconic black and gold jacket on, which he paired with black gloves, diamond bracelets on both hands, diamond-studded earrings, and chunky sunglasses.

According to fans, however, his move was a brazen attempt to gain clout. Here's how one user reacted on X, for instance:

In other news, Playboi Carti made headlines just this week when he announced his new, limited-edition drop collaboration with the NBA and Mitchell & Ness. The line made its debut today, according to Complex.

In August last year, the rapper went viral on Instagram when he sported a 1996 Allen Iverson Sixers jersey, which he wore backwards. He was also seen in a white Penny Hardaway Magic jersey and a custom “00” Atlanta Hawks jersey in the weeks thereafter.

He also famously performed “Timeless” in Brazil with The Weeknd in a Vince Carter Raptors jersey, which he also wore the other way around. For ComplexCon last year, Diehard Opium fans went viral for swapping their usual black outfits for NBA jerseys worn Playboi Carti-style.

“I love everybody's costumes, Supreme T-shirts, backward jerseys, the clown face... I ain’t gon’ lie, I love you, I appreciate you,” the rapper told the crowd on Halloween this year after swarms of fans showed up in backwards jerseys.

Rolling Stone magazine has reported that the new drop of throwback jerseys features teams like the Nets, Bulls, and 76ers. They feature the logo og “YVL” on the back, a.k.a. Playboi Carti's Young Vamp Life label. It is available to preorder from Fanatics and Complex Shop and will be shipped out early next month.
