The upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender has just received a brand new title. This film will now be called The Legend of Aang: The Last of Airbender instead of Aang: The Last Airbender, which is how it was previously titled.
The announcement comes from the 2025 CinemaCon in Las Vegas. It was a part of Paramount's string of announcements at this popular event. Although they did not share any preview footage, the title might be enough for the fans to be excited about the project. The Paramount Animation president, Ramsey Naito, noted,
“Family films are an integral part of our strategy here at Paramount.”
The Legend of Aang is the latest chapter of The Last Airbender animated universe, which mainly includes a popular Nickelodeon series. This has led to its receiving a big fanbase over the years, leading to multiple iterations. More recently, it received a live-action treatment on Netflix for a 10-episode season.
The latest film is an animated one, which stars Dune-fame Dave Bautista and The Walking Dead-fame Steven Yeun in its cast this time around. Bautista is expected to voice an antagonistic role. Yeun isn't new to this universe since he previously voiced Wan in The Legend of Korra. In addition to them, singer-songwriter Eric Nam voices the titular character of Aang in this movie. Dante Basco is reportedly returning to voice Zuko.
The Legend of Aang - The upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender film brings a beloved avatar back to screens
The Legend of Aang will offer another iteration of the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe. The plot details are still under wraps, but judging by the title, it will revolve around Aang, the avatar that saved the globe by mastering the elements in their world: water, earth, fire, and air. It will reportedly follow Aang's team as young adults, mapping out their journey after the end of the war with the Fire Nation. It is being directed by Lauren Montgomery and William Mata.
This update comes shortly after the release of the aforementioned The Legend of Korra. This animated series followed the events seven decades after what happened in Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. It followed the titular character of Korra, who carried forward the responsibilities as an avatar of Aang.
The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender has been scheduled to be released on January 30, 2026.
