Former President Donald Trump claimed that he is facing a "big threat from Iran," following a brief from U.S. intelligence agencies regarding potentially imminent assassination attempts on him.
As per a statement released by his campaign, Trump was informed of "real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States."
Trump took to X to tell the world of his perils, noting:
"Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before. Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service - Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!"
However, netizens reacted to his claims, brushing it off as a sham.
"Statements like this prove to me it's all just a big show. He knows damn well Iran isn't behind the attempts on his life. This is just signaling that the U.S. will be going to war with Iran," one user stated.
Several others chanted the same tunes, noting that this could be fake news, while the others simply wished the former President Donald Trump well.
"I’m afraid it isn’t “Iran,” Mr. President… It’s the same people who have been targeting you with witch hunt after witch hunt since 2015. It’s the same people who are actively trying to throw you in prison. It’s the Deep State. “Iran” is just a good excuse for more endless wars," one user noted.
"Donald Trump and Elon Musk are the two most important men alive right now. If we lose either one of them we literally lose everything. Protect them at all costs," another user said.
"I’m glad to hear they’re keeping you safe please feel free to dm me if there’s anything I can do to help. I’ll keep my ringer on loud tonight," one user said, wittily.
Several others chimed in, noting that this could all just be a spectacle.
"We have your back Mr. President!" one user declared.
"President Trump you are still in grave danger, these are your enemies domestically who want you gone. Iran did not allow Crooks on the roof. Iran did not allow Routh to know your golf time and sit in the bushes for 12 hours. Iran may want you dead, but they aren’t the real threat," another user tweeted.
"I swear to God if anything happens to my president we will war. A third assassination attempt. We love you president Trump," one user stated.
Donald Trump's campaign announces "he is protected and the election is free from interference"
On September 24, Donald Trump's campaign announced that the former President was "briefed earlier today by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding real and specific threats from Iran." The statement, signed off by Steven Cheung, Donald Trump's Campaign Communications Director, read:
"Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months, and law enforcement officials across all agencies are working to ensure President Trump is protected and the election is free from interference. Make no mistake, the terror regime in Iran loves the weakness of Kamala Harris, and is terrified of the strength and resolve of President Trump. He will let nothing stop him or get in his way to fight for the American people and to Make America Great Again."
Donald Trump has been the target of two assassination attempts in the last couple of months.
The first was in July, when the President was shot at by a gunman camouflaged on a roof during a rally in Pennsylvania. The second was earlier this month, as he was playing golf on his own course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
