Robert Downey Jr. is sure loving his character in Avengers: Doomsday, where he will appear as the Fantastic Four nemesis in the comics, Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. The Russo Brothers, directing and producing the next big thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently told Entertainment Tonight how RDJ is in full swing for his upcoming role. Joe Russo said:
"He is so immersed in it. He is so dialed in. He’s writing backstory, costume ideas… We were just on the phone with him this morning before we got here talking about it. He just loves really rich three-dimensional characters. He sees a real opportunity here with the character."
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, followed by an untitled Spider-Man: No Way Home sequel and Avengers: Secret Wars. Though we know Doctor Doom is a major antagonist in the Fantastic Four storyline, we have already seen that Galactus will be the main villain in The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer.
Robert Downey Jr. needs that Tony Stark persona for Avengers: Doomsday
A few rumors came to light recently, courtesy of The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez, which suggests that Doctor Doom is trying to save the universe from an incursion. An incursion happens when two universes collide and one, or both, perish upon its end.
The Tony Stark we remembered was used to taking matters into his own hands, much like Thanos. They both were trying to do what they felt was necessary, and they nearly came close to what they intended to do. However, we lost them at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
What's more interesting about Avengers: Doomsday is that Loki is expected to be returning in the film, and he is likely to be in there for Avengers: Secret Wars too.
If that is true, if he is preparing to appear in the film, then he is very likely to become the Avenger Prime in the film. As of now, these are just rumors so we should be taking them with a grain of salt and waiting for when there's a trailer for it.
