During an interview with SiriusXM's Rock the Bells Radio, Ice Cube explained his stance on his new song, It's My Ego, and It Was a Good Day, where he compares himself with Kendrick Lamar. The artist in It's My Ego raps,
"I minister this pimp s***/I've been a minister since an infant/I was Kendrick before Kendrick/Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, like Jimi Hendrix"
In the interview, the rapper defended himself when host Torae asked him to explain the lyrics,
"Just, you know, a provocative artist. An artist that said what I felt, put it all out there, very critical of the system and the government and what we have to go through as Black people in this country. I think he's the same kind of artist: a thought-provoking artist. I was that before he was."
After an X user @gothamhiphop took to X praising Cube for his lyrics on the new single, users took to the comment section to disapprove;
"He was never better than Kendrick old or new music." - a user pointed
"Love seeing legends have fun", that's how i knew it was most likely bad before i even heard it." - another user noted
"I love ice cube but this is kinda whack compared to other older rappers who’ve had a resurgence (Nas). Bro should’ve linked up with someone like Alchemist or Hit Boy." - another user said
"I said before and I'll say it again this old ah flow/beat ain't it. he need to get on a Yeat type beat." - said another user
Ice Cube on Kendrick Lamar
Ice Cube has always been a fan of Kendrick Lamar and expressed admiration for Lamar's beef with Drake earlier this year. The singer said he approves of the beef since he always loved rap battles. However, he doesn't want the battle to get physical. The rapper also noted that he sees Lamar as the winner of the battle so far,
"I think Kendrick is up, I think he's landed the more hard and effective punches, so to speak."
Ice Cube recently released his new single, It's My Ego, which is available on all streaming platforms. The track is the first single from the rapper's upcoming album, Man Down, which will be his first solo record since 2016's Everythang's Corrupt. The album is all set to drop on November 22 after his full-length project in Snoop Cube 40 $hort, which was originally released via blockchain.
