Ryan Coogler gives an update on Denzel Washington’s role in Black Panther 3

Denzel Washington's appearance in Black Panther 3 has been a matter of conversation as of now as the actor has teased his involvement in the upcoming project that is being made by Ryan Coogler. As Marvel continues to lift curtains on all their projects, fans have also been waiting for confirmations and updates to the other projects lined up by the MCU that involve the older characters of the studio.

The third addition to the Black Panther film has been one such project as fans have theorized who could be the original characters returning for the third film as well as who will join the franchise as new members of Wakanda. Among others, Denzel Washington continues to be one of the big obvious guesses, as Coogler and Washington continue to tease his appearance in the third film.

Coogler is writing the third film and has opened up on Denzel's involvement in Black Panther 3. Speaking to Nightcap recently, the filmmaker said:

“I’ve been dying to work with Denzel. I’m hoping we can make that happen. I’ve got every intention of working with him on that movie. As long as he’s interested, man, it’s going to happen. He’s a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He’s all about looking out for us, now.”

In November 2024, the actor surprisingly confirmed that he would be playing a part in the upcoming Black Panther 3 film. Talking about his future projects at that time, the actor had mentioned Black Panther as well, as he said:

"Ryan Coogler's writing a part for me in the next Black Panther."

He later apologized to Coogler for spilling the beans on the project as his role was supposed to be a surprise. Speaking to Variety, the Gladiator 2 actor opened up more on his role in the third film. Starting off with an apology to Coogler, Washington said:

"I called him. I said, 'I'm sorry, man.' He's like, 'No, man, it's all good.' I FaceTimed, and right there next to him was his lady. They were editing. They were hanging out."

He later adds:

"I don't know what he's got cooking for me. I love Ryan, because he's like, he won't say things. 'You know what I'm saying? Like, you know what I'm saying?' Well, at least that's when he talks to me. It's like, 'You know what I'm saying?' I'm like, 'No, I don't know what you're saying, Ryan, say it!' Well, like, you know what I'm saying? I'm doing a Black Panther.' That's how he sounds, right? 'Yeah, you know what I'm saying?' And like, I'm like, 'Man, are you kidding me? Just write it! Whatever you write, I'll do it.'"
