Sylvester Stallone hailed Donald Trump as the “second George Washington” at a gala event held at Mar-a-Lago on November 14, 2024. Users had plenty to say about it on social media.
The Rambo star welcomed President-elect Trump on stage at the American First Policy Institute’s black-tie gala, which came as a shock for a few people as the actor had previously denied any political ties.
“I’m very, very proud to be here, I didn’t expect this. When I did Rocky, if you remember the first image was a picture of Jesus that says ‘Resurrection A.C. Club.’ I found a Church that had been converted to a boxing ring."
The actor continued:
“So, the image pans out from Jesus onto Rocky being hit and at that moment he was the chosen person, and that’s how I began the journey. Something was going to happen, this man was going to go through a metamorphosis and change lives, just like President Trump."
“We are in the presence of a really mythical character. I love mythology and this individual does not exist on this planet. Nobody in the world could pull off what he pulled off,” Stallone said while praising Trump.
The actor concluded his speech by calling Trump the “second George Washington.”
“When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world, because without him, you can imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We’ve got the second George Washington. Congratulations.”
How do netizens react?
Sylvester Stallone’s endorsement of Trump received mixed reactions. His speech disappointed some fans, who compared him to Arnold Schwarzenegger who has been critical of Trump.
“Sylvester Stallone calls Donald Trump the second George Washington. This made me sad…until I realized we have Arnold,” one fan wrote on X.
“For years I have personally struggled with a grave problem that has consumed many waking hours: Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Today I put that to rest,” another user wrote.
Many opined that Stallone’s comments were a bit exaggerated. They felt Trump was unworthy of being compared to the founder of the United States.
“Like calling a Big Mac a "Michelin-star meal" — a bit of a stretch! Or maybe Rocky took a few too many hits to the head....” One user commented.
“Perhaps Sly got hit in the head to many times in the movies.” Someone else tweeted.
Meanwhile, other fans supported Stallone.
“Rocky motivating me like every one of his movies! Come out of the theatre throwing air punches non stop!!” A user wrote while praising Stallone.
“Dude, I had no idea Stallone was a Trump supporter. I know he called out the snowflakes a few years ago, but this is fantastic. A good spirit. Stallone has always had heart, and you can see it in his films,” one user tweeted.
Who were other members present at the Mar-a-Lago event?
Besides Stallone, vice-president elect JD Vance, Matt Gaetz, Donald Trump Jr., RFK JR., Cheryl Hines, Tucker Carlson, and the president of Argentina Javier Milei were among others attending the event.
