In an Instagram video shared on June 29, Cobra Kai actress Alicia Hannah Kim addressed the biting incident that happened on the sets of the show. Kim was bitten by co-star Martin Kove, who later apologized for the incident. In the video, Kim addresses the situation, saying
"No one wants to be attacked at work or anywhere really. And I don't think anybody would think this is normal or warranted or acceptable."
She went on to add,
"I just think that when you are confronted with something like this, it's good to stand up for yourself. It's an important choice to make. I think it's the good choice to make. I also want to express that this does not represent my experience with the show at large."
She went on to defend the cast and the crew of the show, saying,
"I think everybody can tell that it's a really good vibe and a great cast. And everybody else is delightful. I don't want this to affect your love for the show. Feel free to love on it as hard as you want."
What happened between Alicia Hannah Kim and Martin Kove
As per an informational police report obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Alicia Hannah Kim and Martin Kove were at Summer Con in Washington on June 22, when the incident occurred.
In the documents, Alicia Hannah Kim claimed that she arrived to meet the cast at their designated booth, and tapped Kove on the shoulder to get his attention, when he attacked the actress.
"Martin Kove suddenly grabbed her arm and bit her upper arm so hard it nearly drew blood, and she yelled out in pain. Once Martin Kove finished biting her arm, he grabbed her arm again and began kissing it where he had bit her."
The report says that when Alicia Hannah Kim and her husband, Sebastian Roche confronted the co-star, Kove allegedly "exploded on them" and insisted "he did not do anything wrong", after which, Kove went on to find an on-site law enforcement officer, who confirmed that the actress "had a very noticeable bite mark on her arm that was already turning blue and bruising."
However, Martin Kove later apologized for his actions. In a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly from Jaffe & Co. Crisis Management, Kove said that he "deeply" regrets and apologizes for his actions, adding that he "always respected her and considered her a highly professional and talented co-worker" on the show.
While defending himself, Kove said that he was "being playful in the moment but went too far and there is absolutely no excuse for my behavior."
