The music industry has been shocked by Liam Payne's sudden death, which has brought the singer's open talks about his mental health issues back into the spotlight. Payne, who gained popularity as a member of the legendary boy band One Direction, had been candid about the demands of being a celebrity and how they almost drove him to despair.

The now-deceased Liam Payne had openly talked about his mental health issues, especially when he was a member of One Direction, and disclosed that the extreme celebrity expectations caused him to experience terrible su*cidal thoughts.

In an emotional 2019 interview in Namibia for a special program, Ant Middleton & Liam Payne: Straight Talking, Liam talked about reaching 'rock bottom' due to loneliness, binge drinking, and the attention that came with being a celebrity.

Liam Payne had expressed that the experience of fame was like going through an unusual midlife crisis, expressing that he feels fortunate to still be alive given certain circumstances. Reflecting on the pressure that would get to him at times, he noted:

"There are moments when that profound isolation and the daily invasions of privacy make you wonder, ‘When will this all end?’ It has nearly brought me to the brink several times”

In the interview, Liam Payne also opened up about the challenges he faced due to fame, his past relationship with Cheryl, and their son, Bear. He highlighted the struggles many young parents face, particularly when they have built up an idealized vision of what being a parent should entail. He recognized that his youthful approach to fatherhood and the responsibilities that came with it contributed to his emotional difficulties. He said:

"Becoming a dad at such a young age, it's such a difficult thing. And I think I built fatherhood up so much in my head that it kind of messed me up to start with. I started in a bad place with it"

Ant Middleton, with whom Liam had conducted the interview, took to his Instagram account to share a post after hearing about Liam's passing. In the post's caption, he reflected:

Fans are now expressing outrage over a segment on Channel 7’s TV show Sunrise in Australia, which aired live just hours after the news of Liam Payne's death became public. During the broadcast, Ant Middleton discussed his upcoming challenge of climbing the world’s second-highest mountain when one of the hosts abruptly shifted the conversation to the tragic news of Payne's passing.

One of the news anchors asked Ant Middleton:

"We know that you are here to talk about this other project, but we’re going to put that to one side for just a moment, because we have to get your thoughts on the news of Liam Payne... You’ve only just heard this news yourself."
