Langley Perer, best known for having represented screenwriter Olivia Milch, has died at the age of 44. She succumbed to a four-year battle against cancer.
As of this writing, not much is known about her demise. However, The Hollywood Reporter has stated that she died on June 25 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which is located in Los Angeles. Prior to her passing, she served as the manager with the Mosaic Media Group for half a decade, during which time she produced 2011's Arthur remake.
Mosaic founder and CEO Jimmy Miller has since issued a statement confirming her demise:
“A one-line quote is not enough to describe Langley. The brightest of lights, who would change the temperature in the room. Mother, wife, teammate, manager/producer. Funny, smart, and beautiful. And, apologies to all of the sensitive people out there who won’t understand (but Langley and those of us who knew her will,) she was one of the great broads of all time.”
Langley Perer's life and legacy explored:
According to a January 2023 article from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute website, Langley Perer had been dealing with breast cancer. She got her first diagnosis at the age of 35, in 2017. At the time, doctors informed her she was dealing with the earliest form of the ailment, known as ductal in situ carcinoma (DCIS).
Per the outlet, DCIS is sometimes known as "stage 0 cancer, non-invasive breast cancer, or pre-cancer." Perer then chose to undergo a double mastectomy, since she also tested positive for the BRCA gene, which leads to a higher chance of developing breast cancer.
However, the article states that by 2020, she began feeling unwell. By the following year, after conducting an MRI, it was discovered that she had breast cancer, and it had since metastasized to her brain.
“It was hard to understand,” she told the outlet. “I was told that, by definition, my breast cancer wouldn’t spread.”
She promptly began treatment, and according to the article, maintained bravery all throughout, if only for her children, who were then seven and five years old.
“I will see my daughter graduate,” she told the outlet. “And watch my son play his first guitar solo," Langley Perer added, referencing her son's practice of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Langley Perer is most known for having launched and helmed the careers of prolific directors like Olivia Milch, Stacey Harmon, Nick Schutt, Phil and Brandon Murphy, Max Nichols, Ryan Engle, and Laura Lekkos. Milch has since issued a statement honoring the departed, per The Hollywood Reporter:
“There was no one smarter, funnier, more vibrant, more committed or more believing. She brought joy to the pursuit of the profound truths and a daringness that was contagious. Creating art with Langley was one of the greatest gifts of my life. I will miss her heart, mind, and soul every day.”
Langley Perer was raised in Pittsburgh, having graduated from Tulane University. Her career beginnings saw her work as an assistant at Gersh, though by 2003, she assumed the role of literary manager at Benderspink. She eventually became an agent, and then VP production, and by 2012, she had joined Mosaic. She left the company back in 2017, to focus on her own life.
Langley Perer was previously married to Jonathan Huddle, with whom she tied the knot in October 2010. According to an article from The Hollywood Reporter from that period, the pair tied the knot in front of 150 friends and family before they headed for a honeymoon to Vietnam.
However, a recent article from the outlet suggests that she divorced and moved on to Scott Rosenberg, a writer-producer. She had welcomed her children, Sawyer and Bowie, with him, whom she now leaves behind.
THR has reported that all donations in her memory can be directed towards the Kiki Fund for Leptomeningeal Research. In a statement on the page, written before her demise, Langley Perer opened up about being diagnosed with breast cancer, despite undergoing the double mastectomy:
"The medical community tells me I make up the .1 percent of people this has happened to. Not 1 percent. Point 1 percent. So, yes that makes me a unicorn of sorts, worthy of lots of attention. And we all know how much I love being the center of attention," she wrote. "Until now."
She also reflected on the double mastectomy, which left her incapable of even carrying her infant daughter:
"We assembled a dream team of doctors and in December of 2017, I underwent the scariest surgery of my life. I ended up being under anesthesia for 8 hours and the recovery was just brutal. At the time, Sawyer was only nine months old, yet I was strictly forbidden from lifting anything. Sawyer would just have to wait a few more months to be held by her mama. At least she was going to have her mama for a very long time, I remember thinking to myself."
THR has further reported that ahead of her demise, Langley Perer was able to raise over $1 million to further the research pertaining to her battle with cancer.
