Incumbent President Biden, President-elect Trump, and First Lady Jill Biden were all smiles when posing for a photo at the White House on Wednesday. However, Melania Trump's notable attention caught the internet's eye, sparking reactions.
According to the New York Post, Melania Trump rejected Jill Biden's invitation to meet over tea at the White House, bucking a long-standing tradition. Her reason being: the raid on Mar-a-Lago, sanctioned by the Biden administration, a source claimed.
The post-election tradition is meant to represent the peaceful transition of power. Nonetheless, the internet was quick to weigh in with quippy remarks and memes. Here's what one user said, for example:
"Melania said nope…"
Several more online chimed in:
"We can tell all the smiles are forced," someone posited.
"I mean, why would she want to meet with someone who smeared her and her husband for 4 years if there's no need to?" another asked.
"Jill is fake as hell. Good for Mrs. Trump not pretending to play in their reindeer games. They raided her home and nearly killed her husband," another claimed.
"Melania isn't a big phony. She has more integrity in her little finger than Jill will ever have," another asserted.
More and more commented with their own theories and assumptions:
"The Bidens haven't looked this happy in years. Wow !" someone claimed.
"It seems Melania don't like Jill," one person theorized.
"That’s the happiest I’ve seen Joe Biden ever-" another joked.
"Melania decided to go shopping instead," one user jested.
Melania Trump issues a statement on X, claims the media is riddled with "misleading" information
According to the New York Post, a source claimed that there was no way Melania would attend the meeting. They said:
"She ain’t going Jill Biden’s husband authorized the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer. The Bidens are disgusting. Jill Biden isn’t someone Melania needs to meet."
On November 13, the day of the meeting, Melania's office took to X to issue a statement confirming the same:
"Mrs. Trump will not be attending today’s meeting at the White House. Her husband’s return to the Oval Office to commence the transition process is encouraging, and she wishes him great success."
It went on:
"In this instance, several unnamed sources in the media continue to provide false, misleading, and inaccurate information. Be discerning with your source of news."
It remains unclear if Melania will be moving back into the White House this January, when her husband assumes office.
