Colin Farrell has another update for Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman Part II, and from what the actor has said, the script is shaping up to become an "extraordinary" film. It's been years since fans have waited for Robert Pattinson's return as the caped crusader, and as we have continued to get small hints about the project's advancements, key details about the film have still been kept in secrecy.

Not for Farell though, who stars as the Penguin in the film, and went on to lead the titular spin-off show. He has opened up about the script for The Batman Part II that Matt Reeves is working on. Speaking to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor said:

“I really do think it’s kind of a masterwork. A kind of a contemporary genre masterwork. It’s so brilliant, and Robert’s got such a lovely journey to go on, and to take the audience through.”

He then noted how it was an important moment for him to be one of the first ones to read it, and how it's a dense, intelligent and detailed piece of writing The Batman: Part II is coming out to be. Further adding, he said:

"For me, not as an actor but as a fan of films and a giddy little fanboy, that’s kind of a moment you know when you get the script for The Batman 2. Because, when I opened it the first day, and I realized it’s dense, it’s really, really intelligent, it’s so detailed — I’m not saying too much — and I opened it, and I thought, you know what, wherever I was that day, I was a little bit unfocused, or tired, or agitated or something like that, and I closed it."

When will The Batman Part II release?

Three years after Matt Reeves redefined the Dark Knight mythos with The Batman, fans are bracing for the long-awaited return of Robert Pattinson’s brooding Bruce Wayne in The Batman Part II. It is sequel shrouded in secrecy, ambition, and the kind of cinematic tension that made its predecessor a phenomenon. Written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, the film’s script was only completed in mid-2025 after countless rewrites and delays. Reeves calls the project “a journey that’s taking longer than I’d have wanted,” and that’s putting it mildly.

The Penguin spin-off series has already begun setting the stage, ending with Selina Kyle’s letter to her half-sister Sofia Falcone and the Bat-Signal burning across the night sky, a perfect cue for Gotham’s next descent into madness. As of now, all we can do is wait for a first look at the film, and at Robert Pattinson's next reign as Bruce Wayne.

The Batman Part II is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
