Niall Horan took to his Instagram account to pay tribute to fellow One Direction bandmate Liam Payne after his tragic death at 31. In the tribute Niall said,
I'm absolutely devastated about the passing of my amazing friend, Liam. It just doesn't feel real. Liam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious. He was the brightest in ever room and always made everyone feel happy and secure. All the laughs we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, keep coming to mind through the sadness."

Niall Horan mentioned that he feels fortunate enough to have met him again recently and expressed that he didn't know that their goodbye and hugs were the last one that they'll share.
Liam Payne had been vacationing in Argentina with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. The two attended Niall Horan's concert at Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires on October 2, 2024, before the singer tragically died after falling from the third floor of a building on October 16, 2024.
Niall Horan and other former One Direction members release joint statement
After the death of former One Direction band member Liam Payne, One Direction took to their Instagram account to post an official statement, saying,
"We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
All four members also paid tribute to Liam in individual posts on their social media accounts. Zayn Malik described him as "headstrong" and "opinionated," expressing gratitude for his support during difficult times. Louis Tomlinson called him a "positive," "funny," and "kind" soul. Meanwhile, Harry Styles said Liam "lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve."
The Buenos Aires Security Ministry later informed Associated Press that Liam Payne had "jumped from the balcony of his room" and the police responded to an emergency call warning of an "aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs and alcohol."
As per the doctor's statement by Argentina's National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 14, to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer died of "polytrauma, internal and external hemorrhage."
