Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's daughter Violet delivered an address at the United Nations about the impact of COVID-19 on Tuesday, September 23.

The 19-year-old, a freshman at Yale, opened up about the impact of the ailment on children, noting that their futures were "being stolen" and that "filtered air" is a basic human right. She also expressed concern about the virus spreading at school.

Ben Affleck was married to A-lister Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018. During that time, they welcomed three kids together: Violet Anne, 19, Seraphina Rose, 16, and Samuel, 13. The Yes Day actress and the Gone Girl star have long kept their kids' lives outside of the public eye.

In her speech, addressing the United Nations assembly, Violet said:

"We are told by leaders across the board that we are the future. But when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, our present is being stolen right in front of our eyes."

Violet, who addressed the crowd while sporting a K95 mask, slammed adults or

"the relentless beat of back to normal, ignoring downplaying, and concealing both the prevalence of airborne transmission and the threat of long COVID."

According to People Magazine, Violet recently published a paper about the Los Angeles County wildfires that ravaged the region in January.

"Young people lacked both real choice in the matter and information about what was being chosen for us," she added. "Here's what we know about SARS CoV2. It is airborne, floating and lingering in the air, one infection can result in disabling damage to almost every cell in the body from the brain and heart to the nerves and blood vessels."

She also remarked that

"every subsequent infection increases the risk of long movement and places people who already have it in greater danger. As Dr. Akiko Iwasaki says, at this point, the whole population is the control group, and after only five years, long COVID has surpassed asthma as the most common chronic illness in children in five years and under."

The teenager then voiced her concerns about the spread of the virus at schools, noting,

"I am furious on their behalf. It is a neglect of the highest order to look children in the eyes and say, 'We knew how to protect you and we didn't do it. We have access to a technology to prevent airborne disease, something that millions of our ancestors and millions of people around the world today would kill for, and we refuse to use it'. And I shudder to think of where we will be in another five years of unmitigated infection and reinfection."

She concluded her speech:

“We can recognise filtered air as a human right as intuitively as we do filtered water. We can create clean air infrastructure that is so ubiquitous and so obviously necessary, tomorrow’s children don’t even know why we need it.”

Mirror has reported that an individual is diagnosed with Long Covid when the symptoms persist for over 12 weeks. The most common symptoms range from fatigue, shortness of breath, joint pain, and chest pain to memory problems, fever, runny nose, and cough.
