Attorney and podcaster, Rachel Lindsay, opened up about her divorce from her ex-husband, Bryan Abasolo, on the April 4, 2025, episode of the Higher Learning podcast, co-hosted by Van Lathan. Lindsay and Abasolo got hitched in 2019 and were married for over four years before finalizing their divorce in January 2024.

Rachel Lindsay explained that she didn't believe her ex should receive alimony because they both made sacrifices in the marriage, and she didn’t think she should be penalized just because her career was thriving during that time while his wasn’t. She admitted to understanding the criticism about not having a prenup but said people don’t know the story behind that decision.

Her main point was that someone fully capable of working, licensed in several states, with access to opportunities, and able to use their platform, shouldn’t rely on spousal support. She also emphasized that the real issue was how some people misuse an outdated system for a different purpose. However, she clarified:

“I am not saying that my ex didn't deserve some sort of compensation. If you read, if you followed along, you saw that I was willing to give money. What I don't agree with is the taking advantage of an old system.”

Lathan initiated the conversation noting that she wanted to discuss a lingering topic, the alimony situation with her former spouse. Rachel Lindsay said:

“When it comes to spousal support, even child support, but I am not going to speak to that cause I don't have children. It is particular to the people that are involved and that goes for their circumstances and it also goes to what state they reside in. You can't say this person did that so this person should have that this person took advantage of the system so this person deserves to be taken advantage of.”

Rachel Lindsay said she moved to Miami after leaving her job in Dallas

Rachel Lindsay shared that while she was not offended, and found it frustrating that many people felt the need to weigh in on her situation, especially when they compared it to others dealing with alimony.

Lindsay said she was tired of hearing the argument that her ex-husband deserved money just because he gave up his career for her, as it oversimplified what happened. She said:

“I am just going to say this and I am going to say this once not true and before I even get into the detail of it, also marriage, partnership, relationships are also about sacrifice and compromise. Some people give a little here some people give a little there. It's a back and forth it's not all about one person.”

Rachel Lindsay cleared up a misunderstanding by explaining that her ex didn’t relocate three times because of her. She said they first moved to Dallas because he left his job after the show, while she was still working. So, staying there was the only choice.

Then, she left her legal career in Dallas and moved to Miami without having a job lined up, which she feels people overlook. Their move to Los Angeles was a joint decision, and she hinted that pursuing opportunities in Hollywood wasn’t just her idea.
