In June 2001, former Bad Boy rapper Moses "Shyne" Barrow was sentenced to 10 years in prison without eligibility for parole after a nightclub shooting incident.

Moses "Shyne" Barrow will be releasing a new documentary, premiering on Hulu on November 18, about his life and career, where he will open up about the 1999 nightclub shooting incident involving Sean "Diddy" Combs.

In the trailer for The Honorable Shyne, released on October 22, Moses says he was set up to be the "fall guy."

"I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy."

His mother, Frances Myvette, alleged that Moses was "betrayed. At a press conference at the time of the incident, Moses said,

"Under no circumstances whatsoever did I have anything to do with a shooting. I do not own a gun nor did I have possession of a gun that night."

What was the 1999 nightclub shooting incident that led to Moses "Shyne" Barrow's arrest

In December 1999, Sean "Diddy" Combs, his bodyguard, Anthony "Wolf" Jones, and Shyne were involved in a disagreement at Club New York in Manhattan when gunfire was shot and three people were injured.

Combs, his girlfriend at that time, Jennifer Lopez, and Barrow left the club, and the police chased the three across New York before finding a stolen gun inside a car.

After his release, Barrow became a politician in Belize and serves as the leader of the opposition in the country's House of Representatives. In an interview published in September 2024, Barrow mentioned that Combs "destroyed" his life.

The politician alleged that Combs got witnesses to blame Barrow during the trial, which led him to serve 10 years in prison despite Natania Reuben, one of the three victims, who claimed that it was Diddy who fired the shot at her. After his release, Barrow was deported to Belize. While looking back at the incident, Barrow said,

"When I was an 18-year old kid, just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and be recognized for my talent and take over the world. I was defending him (Diddy) and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me."

Since the incident and his release, Barrow has forgiven Combs and said,

"This was not someone who I vacationed with and who...I enjoyed this great intimate relationship of brotherhood. This is someone who destroyed my life, and who I forgave."

Directed by Marcus A. Clarke, Barrow's documentary The Honorable Shyne follows the rapper turned politician's life as a Grammy Award winning musician, his career, his time in prison and the aftermath of the shooting incident.
