Cheryl Cole, who dated singer Liam Payne for two years before they went their separate ways, has been named administrator of the estate of the the late singer, who died last year. This was confirmed by New York Post.
Liam Payne, who passed away in October while visiting Buenos Aires with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, shared an eight year old son with Cheryl Cole. In the latest development, Cheryl Cole has been named the administrator of the Strip That Down singer's $32.2 million estate after it was found that, at the time of his passing, the singer had created no will.

Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne officially started dating in 2016 per People, though they had met earlier in 2008 when Payne auditioned as a contestant on the British reality TV show, X Factor, where Cole was judge. Payne, who was just 14, made it all the way to the Judges' House round but was eventually eliminated. Two years later, he would return to the show and would become part of the group that became One Direction.
In a 2017 interview with The Sun, the Drag Me Down singer reminisced about the moment he met Cheryl as a teenager in 2008. He said:
“I always, always had a crush on her. I got back to school the next day and when my friends saw it they were literally ripping the pi** out of me. Now they can’t say it didn’t work.”
Cut to 2016, when One Direction was at the pinnacle of their success, Liam Payne was linked with Cheryl Cole, who was recently divorced from Jean Bernard Fernandez-Versini after two years of marriage. In May 2016, after months of speculation, Cheryl and Liam were seen together at the red carpet event for the Global Gift Gala.
Payne later posted on X, saying:
"So proud of her tonight 😘😘such a special award #GlobalGiftGala."
Liam Payne's sudden death in October 2024 shocked everyone. He was found dead, having fallen from the balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. Investigations later revealed that he had multiple dr*gs in his system at the time of the tragedy. Following his death, Cheryl Cole released a statement asking for privacy in the wake of the tragedy. She wrote:
"As I try to navigate this earth shattering event and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being. Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself if you would like your own child or family to read them."
On March 22, 2017, just after a year of dating, the couple welcomed their first child, a son they named Bear Grey. According to People, Cheryl Cole had posted a picture on her Instagram, announcing the special moment. She wrote:
"On Wednesday 22nd March Liam and I became parents to an incredibly beautiful, healthy baby boy, weighing 7lb 9 and looking like a dream. Although he still doesn't have a name he is already stealing hearts. We are all madly in love and overwhelmingly happy with our little arrival."
She added:
"Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers around the world. A day that now has a different meaning to me forever."
Just a year later, the couple, who had a 10 year age difference went their separate ways but remained friends, as they co-parented their son Bear. The Fight For Love singer announced their separation on X, saying:
"We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."
In 2022, during Liam Payne's appearance on the Impaulsive Podcast, hosted by Logan Paul, the Bedroom Floor singer talked about their relationship post their break up, adding that he was thankful to co-parent with Cheryl. He said:
"I couldn't ask someone better. The relationship we have with each other now as friends has only grown more. We broke up for a reason and now, she gives me full autonomy of my own life to be able to go and do what I do and at the same time I know he's been taken care of because he's all she cares about. You couldn't ask for more."
According to People magazine, since Payne had no will, the administrative powers of his estate has been granted to not just Cole but also attorney, Richard Mark Bay. However, according to the outlet, their power is at the moment limited, meaning they cannot sell the estate untill further notice.
