Paul Mescal is hyped up about his portrayal of Paul McCartney in the upcoming Beatles film, and nothing is holding him back as the actor praises the music legend and his legacy. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mescal opened up about working on the film, and how his meeting with McCartney went as he added that the Beatles member "changed the world."
The shooting plan for the Beatles film is way different than one can imagine. Talking about the schedule the cast is following for the film, Mescal says,
“It’s a version of a weird 9-to-5, and I thought I would hate that and I actually am loving that. I do like structure a lot. I like a plan. I like rehearsals... Average day is: We get up, we go out to Bobbington — which is about an hour and a quarter drive — listening to the Beatles in the car. Then we go in, and we try to walk, talk, play, think like the Beatles. Then we get in the car, listen to the Beatles, and go home.”
He is also learning to play the guitar left handed, to portray McCartney, who he describes as the "coolest man on planet Earth," even more accurately. Talking about that, Mescal adds,
“It would just be crazy to not play it left-handed, you know? You’re like, ‘Nah. I like [McCartney] a lot, but I don’t love him.’ That would be the messaging if I didn’t play left-handed. And he’s the f**king coolest man on planet Earth, I think.”
More details about the Beatles biopic
Sony Pictures is betting big on the Fab Four, as the studio is launching an ambitious four-part biopic series that will put the Beatles' story on the big screen like never before. Directed by Oscar winning helmer Sam Mendes, the interconnected films will each spotlight one member of the band, making sure all their stories and legacies get justice on the big screen, weaving their lives into one single sweeping narrative.
The cast features Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. The stars have gotten support from the surviving members of the band as well, with Ringo Starr joking about Keoghan' drumming lessons and reports of McCartney being in contact with Mescal.
Though the exact timeline of the films is not yet known, the series has gotten the support of Apple Corps, the company founded by the Beatles in 1968. Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne have joined the projects as writers, as Sony Pictures Entertainment and Mendes’s Neal Street Productions along with Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire are producing.
Although it's not yet known in what order the films will be in theaters, Sony has announced a release year of 2028 for the series.
