Chris Brown has been granted bail by a London judge after he was arrested on suspicion of assault in a nightclub in 2023. According to reports, Brown attacked a music producer without cause. As part of his bail requirements, Chris Brown must pay a security fee to the court in order for him to proceed with his planned international "Breezy Bowl XX Tour" in June.

A security fee is a monetary assurance that ensures that the defendant will appear in court.

Chris Brown was taken into custody on 15 May 2025 in Manchester by Metropolitan Police detectives after he was accused of causing harm using a tequila bottle. He was charged with assaulting music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in Hanover Square, Mayfair, Central London, on February 19, 2023.

At the time of his arrest, the Metropolitan Police released a statement:

"A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023."

Diaw told The Sun that he was hospitalized as a consequence of the unprovoked attack. The musician was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. UK law imposes stringent reporting limits, restricting public information to guarantee an impartial jury trial.

In addition to the criminal investigation, Diaw has filed a $16 million (£12 million) civil lawsuit against Brown for alleged losses and injuries.

Chris Brown's court proceedings and bail conditions

On Wednesday, May 21, Brown appeared at Southwark Crown Court through legal counsel, and Judge Tony Baumgartner granted him bail with tight requirements. Among these are the £4 million that must be paid right away and the £1 million that must be paid in seven days.

He was directed to live at a court-approved address, turn in his passport when not on tour, and stay away from the Tape nightclub and the claimed victim.

"He must surrender his passport if he is not travelling on tour." said the Judge
