R. Kelly’s ex-wife, Drea Kelly, is spilling the tea about her life in the entertainment industry, and her abusive relationship with her ex-husband, in an all-new tell-all book. The 50-year-old dancer and choreographer took to Instagram on October 5 to post a video of her book, Under The Red Carpet. The video also featured several images of Diddy and R. Kelly.
However, the internet was not impressed. Many began questioning her intent, positing that this could all just be a ploy for attention, or, as one user put it,
"But still carries his last name to stay relevant. Drop the name and then it will make sense . Like i can’t."
More social media users had a lot to say, and seemingly, the internet was divided. While some called her out for retaining her husband's last name, others cheered her on, noting that she was doing good.
"As a Domestic Violence Survivor, You Go Drea! Mine was over 17 years ago, however you still live with it in your head forever!! Love you Drea!!!!" one user stated.
"I'm sure her book has nothing to do with "Money." It's called "Freedom!" Who cares about how long it took for her to write it. Sharing a testimony on abuse doesn't have an expiration date and it definitely isn't easy. Releasing this book takes courage and I commend her for her bravery. I hope it will inspire many," another lauded the dancer.
"It is not a coincidence that two of his children and his ex wife have something to say knowing his appeal was Monday. No one came to court, was radio silent, and had no information for the FEDS, now they want to chirp to the public for a price. I am not supporting or buying," another claimed.
"I’m so sick of her! He’s in jail. What else does she want? Him resentenced to death?" one user questioned.
"Errrrrbody tryna get paid she should’ve did that during the era of RKelly," one fan criticized.
"I will never like Drea. Idc what nobody say she knew what was goin on and she need to be locked up too. What exactly is goin to be in this tell all book ? Drea needs a seat in prison," another stated.
Drea Kelly says she refuses to "be nice" to the "unpleasant world" anymore
The caption of the dancer's post on Instagram read:
"I am a BEAST and a BUTTERFLY. God said it is so. The time has come to disrupt the deception. For years people have spoken on my life without knowing ANYTHING about me. How crazy is it to speak on someone you NEVER MET or had a conversation with as FACT."
She continued, noting that she would be revealing everything to the world about her abusive relationship with R. Kelly.
"Well, the time has come to speak without fear! No more forcing a smile to get thru the pain of being me. No more “be nice” to please an unpleasant world. My book is going to set so many free and if you have a problem….it’s not with me! Take it up with GOD. This is HIS will and it is so."
Just a few days ago, Drea Kelly and R. Kelly’s daughter, Joanne, revealed that a documentary that details her life, and the “dark reality of living in the shadow of one of the most notorious figures in music” is imminent. Her siblings, Jaah Kelly and Robert Kelly Jr, and her mother, all make an appearance. Titled R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey, the documentary will reflect “raw and emotional” interviews with all of them.
