Paul Mescal has endeared himself to audiences. Thanks to his sincere and naturalistic approach to his craft. While his role in Normal People certainly put him on the map, leading roles in legacy-making films like Gladiator 2 have elevated the actor into the A-list.

In the most recent news involving Mescal, the actor was recently interviewed by Variety at a screening event for his upcoming feature film Hamnet. When asked what film makes him cry, the actor gave what seemed like an off-the-cuff and honest response.

“But to answer your question, a film that really makes me cry. What have I watched recently that made me cry? Oh, One Battle After Another made me cry. I think it’s so brilliantly, brilliantly directed and so well-acted and I just really felt for Leo’s character. I was just watching him and I really needed him to charge his phone. I didn’t cry over that, but yeah, I just think it’s just a brilliantly made piece of art.”

Clearly, Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film had a lasting impact on Paul Mescal, whose upcoming Hamnet is slated for release on November 26.

Paul Mescal’s budding romance, more

Apart from his tremendous skill and range as an actor, Paul Mescal has been garnering attention of late for his personal life. The typically guarded Mescal views his privacy as an increasingly valuable commodity given the context of his profession but has opened up recently about his relationship with musician Gracie Abrams.

In a profile piece published on September 15 for Rolling Stone, Mescal shared his thoughts on going public with their romance.

"I actually do have an answer, but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me and I don’t want to. ... This isn’t … I don’t really … umm … I want to protect those things fundamentally.”

While Mescal clearly did not divulge any concrete information, he was open to discussing the topic, which seems like a departure from his more highly guarded nature. Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams went Instagram official this past July when the singer included him in a series of photos from her time in Glastonbury.

Aside from the upcoming Hamnet, where Mescal portrays legendary playwright William Shakespeare, audiences can also catch the actor in The History of Sound, a period romance which is available to stream on Tubi.
