When "John Wick" was released in 2014, it became a major blockbuster. Starring Keanu Reeves in the lead role, the film garnered $87.79 million at the box office worldwide according to The Numbers website.
But, only a few might be aware of the financial struggles that the production house has gone through during the last leg of the epic blockbuster. And the credit goes to Desperate Housewives actor Eva Longoria! How you ask?
In a recent interview with Business Insider, director Chad Stahelski revealed how they faced financial difficulties while making the film.
"We were less than a week out and we lost almost $6 million on a gap financing," said Stahelski.
This was after directors Chad Stahelski, David Leitch and Reeves had invested their own money in the production. Producer Basil Iwanyk even exhausted the capacity of his three personal credit cards. They all lost hope.
"We were financing independently to get the bond, but one of the investors couldn't raise the money in time," Stahelski continued.
However, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) was trying its best to save the project and offered some of the actors an opportunity to invest in the film. It was then that Eva Longoria came forward and helped to fill the financial gap.
Talking about Longoria’s financial rescue, Stahelski added,
"She came to the rescue and she provided the gap financing, literally less than 24 hours before we had to lock the doors on the movie and walk away."
Later, on a dinner date with the other two directors, Basil revealed to them jokingly how Longoria’s last-minute contribution saved the film.
But, did her investment ever convince the John Wick directors to offer her a role in one of the sequels of the film? Leitch answered,
“She wants to for sure, she wants to do action. I would love to work with her, we’re trying to find something.”
