Earlier this month, the Sixth Sense actor Haley Joel Osment was arrested in Mammoth Lakes, California. The Saturn Award winner is now facing a controversy after allegedly using racial slurs during his encounter with the authorities.

Mammoth Lakes is known for its spectacular natural scenery and outdoor activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, and camping in the summer. The town is located in the middle of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and attracts outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.

According to a report in PEOPLE, authorities arrested the 37-year-old actor on April 8th at a local ski lodge for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. A week later, on April 17, the Mono County District Attorney’s office announced charges of cocaine possession and disorderly conduct. His court appearance is scheduled for June 7.

Haley Joel Osment has since addressed the situation publicly, offering an apology for what he called “disgraceful language” used by him during the arrest. A police body cam footage was released during this controversy.

“I’m absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner,” shared Haley Joel Osment.
“The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place.”

Haley was among the many affected by the devastating Eaton Fire that spread through Altadena, claiming homes along the way.

Per Just Jared, the fires that spread across Los Angeles have destroyed approximately more than 1,000 buildings. Over 30,000 people have been told to evacuate the area. The destruction didn’t spare celebrity homes either, with several well-known figures among those who lost their shelter and safe place.

“But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts,” he continued. “What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage – I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.” he continued.

Bodycam footage shows Haley Joel Osment’s arrest:

Bodycam footage obtained by PEOPLE shows Osment being taken into custody, during which he states, “I’m being attacked.”

At one point, when officers ask for his name, Osment replies instead with, “I’m an American.”

According to a witness seen speaking in the footage, Haley Joel Osment had been drinking at a nearby bar when the staff allegedly cut him off after he spilled a drink; he reportedly became “aggravated” and “argumentative”. He later tried boarding a ski lift, however, the employees refused and called the law enforcement.

The aftermath of the Altadena wildfire hasn’t been easy for Osment. TMZ learned from sources that the actor lost everything in the fire, and his recovery process has been complicated by ongoing insurance troubles. In one instance, a replacement home he found wasn’t covered by his provider.

Haley Joel Osment’s 2006 DUI and Drug Charges:

In 2006, Osment’s wholesome public image was significantly tarnished after a car accident led to his arrest. He reportedly lost control of his vehicle, which struck a brick mailbox pillar and overturned. He sustained a broken rib and a shoulder injury, resulting in a brief hospitalization.

Weeks after the incident, Osment faced multiple misdemeanor charges: one for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content reportedly above 0.15 percent, and another for marihuana possession during the traffic incident.

Because Osment was under the legal drinking age at the time, an additional charge was filed for having a 0.05 percent blood alcohol level. He eventually pleaded no contest to both counts.
