"Just felt like a kid again"— Fans get nostalgic as DC drops a heartwarming 'sneak peek' of James Gunn's Superman

A Superman sneak peek arrived on YouTube today, and with it comes the Fortress of Solitude, which no one can deny shows what goes inside of that beautiful mind of James Gunn. Many fans might not be happy after they realize Henry Cavill won't be their Man of Steel anymore, but they sure will be happy to see this.

By the looks of it, James Gunn's first chapter in the Gods and Monsters saga, which is also the first chapter in his DC Universe, will be one hell of an opener. The saga will establish what Gunn has envisioned for his version of DC, where he wants to do an Avengers: Endgame-like assembled scene.

As of this writing, the Superman sneak peek has accumulated four million views on the YouTube channel since it was first uploaded. And fans sure are excited about it; the comments section screams that.

Just three months to go, and we may see those excitement-filled screams in theaters, too, especially when the Fortress of Solitude is introduced on the big screen.

There are details in the new Superman footage that are too good to ignore. Beginning with the comment of this fan dubbed bloopblop5710, what the user saw in the trailer was just too real. The user writes,

"As a dog owner, Krypto jumping on Superman all excited not realizing it hurts is too real for me lol."

A user called @izraelnalumusic4205 was taken back in time after witnessing this beauty,

"Why have i watched this more than twice?!😅its only 5min but you can clearly see that James gunn understood the assignment very well, Im 43yrs old & i just felt like a kid again🥹"

This user wasn't alone in feeling that nostalgia. Another one with the username @persianashomeikon221 wrote,

"54 year old here, but today, just today, I´m 7 years old. The age I ws when Superman The Movie came out. I feel exactly the same right now."

@jasontwombly4049 joined them, as he commented,

"This feels like a silver age D.C. comic."

Most importantly, the fans noticed how this version of the story stands out, which is clear by the reaction of this fan called @nseven1117, who writes,

"I like how the Superbots and the Fortress have their distinct retro-futuristic look and feel to them. really makes this version standout."

The above comment also resonates with a Marvel Cinematic Universe film that's also due in July 2025, like Superman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, MCU's first family doesn't have four robots but one, H.E.R.B.I.E., who didn't talk in the trailer.

And as they say, and we know, our superhero is a symbol of hope. This fan called @DOA-mv7xb felt that. The user says,

"Goodbye clinical depression. Hello hope and inspiration."

What's new in the latest footage?

The Fortress of Solitude and some fun moments of Krypto the Superdog being Krypto the Superdog around his best friend. We already saw him in the trailer, but then he jumps on a beaten Clark Kent and takes him back home.

And then it happens: the pristine Fortress of Solitude emerges from the milk-white white snow. There is no flux of colors in this sequence like James Gunn is accustomed to, though there will be in the movie. As we have already witnessed in the trailer, the white is just beautifully vibrant.

Finally, we have four Superbots carrying him for the treatment; it seems like there's one new recruit among them, 12; her (the voice was female's) voice gives us a sense of joy when Superman gives her a nod.

Superman will be released on July 11, 2025, globally.
