Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney has stepped out in support of Democrat Kamala Harris as she battles out her Republican rival, Donald Trump, in the US presidential elections 2024. Two weeks to Election Day, the duo will stand against each other before their nation, proving their mettle to be the best presidential candidate. The elections are slated to be held on November 5.

The leaders are busy campaigning and are not leaving any stone unturned. During one of his campaigns at an event outside Charlotte, Trump said:

"As I look back at my life's journey and events, I now recognize that it's been the hand of God leading me to where I am today."

He added:

"And my faith took on new meaning on July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania, where I was knocked to the ground essentially by what seemed like a supernatural hand. And I would like to think that God saved me for a purpose, and that's to make our country greater."

On the other hand, Kamala Harris campaigned at a hall in Michigan alongside former GOP Congresswoman Liz Cheney. Challenging her votes, she said,

"I have said before and it must be repeated each time: There are moments in the history of our country which challenge us, each of us, to really decide." She continued to ask the voters, "Do we stand for those things that we talk about, including in particular country over party?"

During another campaign in Pennsylvania, Cheney asked the voters to vote their conscience. Supporting Harris, she said that every single thing in her experience has played a major role in her endorsement of Vice President Harris, and that begins with the fact that she is a conservative.

“I know that the most conservative of all conservative principles is being faithful to the Constitution. And you have to choose in this race, between someone who has been faithful to the Constitution, who will be faithful, and Donald Trump,”

Cheney ended her statement.

Besides offering her support to Harris, Cheney also admitted that her father, Dick Cheney, would also be voting for her.

How Dick Cheney supported his daughter, Liz Cheney’s views?

Dick Cheney has been critical of Donald Trump, just like his daughter. During Liz Cheney’s re-election campaign in 2022, Dick launched a stinging attack on Trump and called him a “coward” for attempting to steal the last election using lies and violence."

Dick Cheney served as the Vice President for George W Bush between 2001 to 2009. The 83-year-old has often been slammed for playing a pivotal role in planning the US wars in countries like Afghanistan and Iraq.

In September, Cheney issued a statement criticizing Trump as he endorsed Harris.

He said,

“in our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.” Cheney continued: “He can never be trusted with power again. As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

Views of Liz Cheney’s other family members on Trump

Speaking to People Magazine, Liz shed light on her book, Oath and Honour, and recalled how her mother’s relationship with her decades-long friend went sour over their conflicting views on Donald Trump. When the Cheney family became outwardly criticized Trump, her mother’s friend ended their friendship of 60 years.

Liz Cheney’s sister, Mary Cheney, served as Dick Cheney’s aide and also as the director of vice-presidential operations during the 2004 re-election campaign. Mary strongly opposes Trump, just like the rest of her family. The reason behind the feud between Mary and Liz lies in their different views on same-se* marriages.

When Mary came out as g*y to her family, her father supported her and went against the views of his party, which was campaigning on forbidding g*y marriages. Liz strongly opposed her sister’s decision and boycotted Mary’s marriage to her long-time partner, Heather Poe. Later, the sisters reconciled and admitted their love for each other.
