Verónica Echegui, the Spanish actress known for her roles in Love You To Death and Trust, breathed her last on Sunday, August 24, 2025, in a hospital in Madrid. Echegui was battling cancer, according to The Sun.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez penned a heartfelt tribute to the actress on social media:

''I was deeply shocked by the news of Verónica Echegui's passing, an actress with enormous talent and humility who leaves us far too young. My sincere embrace in these such difficult moments for the entire family and friends.''

Echegui was 42 at the time of her death.


Tributes pour in for Verónica Echegui

Echegui was last seen in the romantic comedy series Love You To Death, which was released this year. As the shocking news of her death came out, tributes poured in from across the globe. Antonio Banderas, the Spanish actor and Echegui's co-star, penned an emotional tribute for her on X. He wrote:

''Today, Spanish cinema is in mourning due to the passing of Verónica Echegui. My condolences to her family and friends.''

Juan Diego Botto, the Argentine-Spanish actor known for his roles in films such as On the Fringe and Go Away from Me, also paid an emotional tribute. It read:

''I'm in shock at the loss of the great actress Verónica Echegui. A huge loss for our cinema. My warmest condolences to her family and friends.''

Verónica was born in Madrid in 1983. Her father was a lawyer and her mother a civil servant. Echegui trained at the drama school, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

She made her feature debut in the 2006 drama My Name Is Juani. She then appeared in various films and series, including the 2012 film Kathmandu Lullaby, the 2016 film You're Killing Me Susana, Artificial Justice, The Cold Light of Day, The Hunter's Prayer, My Heart Goes Boom!, and The Offering.

She also appeared in television series like Fortitude and the 2022 series Intimacy. Echegui made her directorial debut with her 2020 short film titled Tótem Loba. It won the Best Short Film at the Goya Awards in 2022.

Echegui also won several awards in her career for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, including the 35th Goya Awards, 8th Feroz Awards, and 13th Gaudí Awards in 2021, and 10th Platino Awards in 2023, among others.

As per reports, only a few people in the industry knew of the actress's illness, as her team kept her battle with cancer private. Fans, fellow actors, and leaders are mourning her loss.
