The playful feud between MCU stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds reportedly goes way back to 2009, when the duo met on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. As per reports, in 2017, Reynolds opened up about his wish to see Deadpool feature in a Wolverine movie.

But, Jackman was not up for the offer at that time, as he was set to return for his supposedly final faray in the movie Logan. The Free Guy actor had reportedly told Variety in a statement:

"I have no idea if I can change his mind. It’s the audience: I would exclusively exploit that relationship to get Hugh back for another one."

He further added:

"What we’re gonna have to do is convince Hugh. If anything, I’m going to need to do what I can to get my internet friends back on board to help rally another cause down the line."

Over the years, the playful fights have seen a sinusoidal movement until we finally see Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds reunite for Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Reynolds' dream eventually came true, but only to add more to their everlasting playful feud.

Recently, famous TV personality Martha Helen Stewart reportedly said about Reynolds on November Rent Free Game that the actor is 'not so funny in real life'. When asked about the most fun person to hang out with, she further added:

"He’s probably on the list just ‘cause he covers himself up in his movies and you don’t see his face — Ryan Reynolds, is he one of those? And you want to know something? He’s not so funny in real life. No, he’s not so funny. He’s very serious."

As per reports, Hugh Jackman agreed to Martha Stewart's statement and opened up saying that finally someone has said it. It further brought into light how the feud started and unraveled over the years.

Wolverine star Hugh Jackman gives nod to Martha Stewart's statement

Ryan Reynolds reportedly replied to Martha Stewart's comments on his Twitter handle, saying:

"I’d disagree with her. But I tried that once. The woman is unexpectedly spry. She really closed the gap after a mile or so."

But, it brought surprise when Hugh Jackman weighed in on Stewart's comments on the Deadpool star. He reportedly agreed to her and said:

"Finally someone says it."

Scarlett Johansson's marriage to Reynolds was supposedly the starting point

Jackman reportedly told on 2020 interview with The Daily Beast that according to him, Scarlett Johansson is the source behind the banter - given the fact that she was married to Reynolds for a short while (2008-2011).

The Wolverine star further said that he and Scarlett were very good friends and when Reynolds appeared on the set, he funnily said:

"Hey, you better be on your best behavior here, pal, because I’m watching,' and we started ribbing each other that way."

He further added:

"And then it all escalated with the Deadpool thing and him calling me out, and trying to manipulate me through social media to do what he wanted."

The feud reportedly went public in 2015 when Hugh Jackman posted a video of Reynolds (in Deadpool's make up) impersonating him (using the Australian accent) on his Instagram handle.

The playful feuds extended to birthday and holiday wishes

The feud went on with the two stars poking and making fun of each other on social media. In 2017, Ryan Reynolds reportedly made it lucid that he wanted to see Deadpool and Wolverine uniting for a Marvel movie. But, as per Jackman, even though the offer was fair, but the timing was wrong.

The two stars have reportedly trolled each other on their birthdays and the holiday season on their social handles. On one such ocassion, in 2018, Jackman was recording a video message for a fan on his birthday but, it was disrupted by Reynolds' Deadpool singing in the background - quite a loving yet antagonistic display of their relationship.

Jackman further extended the play feud on Reynolds' 42nd birthday by funnily posting a picture on his Twitter account.

Reynolds and Jackman called a truce in 2019

In 2019, Jackman and Reynolds officially called a truce as they posted in their social media handles saying that their playful feud has finally come to an end. They further clarified that to mend their 'broken relationship' they had plans to make advertisements for each other's comapnies, reports.

However, the feud reunited few months later on the sets of The Man. The Music. The Show. Their playful fights ranged from their footwear to the titles of the S*xiest Man Alive. As per reports, they even poked each other in promotional events for Deadpool & Wolverine.
