Jon Watts' action comedy film Wolfs starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, was initially in talks for a sequel, after the first part premiered on Apple TV+ in September 2024. Following the abrupt ending of the first movie, fans speculated a lot about how the story will continue and whether there will be a second part.
Later, it was confirmed by multiple sources that the plans for a sequel are already under way. But the latest update makes it clear that Apple TV will not be moving forward with Wolfs 2, for the time being.
Wolfs revolves around the story of two unnamed fixers (Brad Pitt and George Clooney) who try to handle a criminal situation for their common client Margaret, the District Attorney of Manhattan (played by Amy Ryan). While on their quest, the duo gets involved in a series of incidents that ultimately leads to an armed showdown with a group of gangsters.
Has Wolfs 2 been canceled by Apple TV?
As per Deadline, the production of Wolfs 2 will not be moving forward. Director Jon Watts has confirmed the same in a statement saying:
"I don’t know what I’m directing next, and I don’t think there’s going to be a Wolfs sequel."
After a limited theatrical release followed by an Apple TV premiere, it was confirmed that a sequel to Wolfs was already in development. However, Watts mentioned during the promotion of Skeleton Crew that Wolfs 2 has been canceled. Variety has also given its nod to the situation, saying, 'Plans have been scrapped' almost three months post the deal was finalized.
Did the first movie's open ending and commercial success leave space for a sequel?
The abrupt change of strategy regarding the theatrical rollout (from wide to limited release) of Wolfs has been justified by star George Clooney. He mentioned in a statement:
"Brad and I made the deal to do that movie where we gave money back to make sure that we had a theatrical release."
But this also brought good news for fans. Director Jon Watts later confirmed that he had signed a deal with tech giant Apple to produce a Wolfs sequel. Moreover, the Clooney-Pitt duo was also expected to return to the big screen to continue their adventures in the criminal underworld.
Wolfs' premiere at the Venice International Film Festival was a grand opening. Apple acknowledged that the film was the most viewed feature in the platform's history, even in terms of streaming success.
Apple Original Films’ head of features, Matt Dentler, mentioned in a statement soon after saying:
"Audiences have chosen in droves to make ‘Wolfs’ part of their weekend, making the movie a global blockbuster. We always consider Apple TV+ to be the home for the world’s most talented artists to create and deliver their best work, and it’s exciting to see audiences embrace that so overwhelmingly."
Moreover, the open ending of Wolfs has left space for the story to continue—all the more reason for a sequel to be produced. The commercial success and the possibility of the plot to continue beyond the first part definitely meant to leave something more for the audience, but for now, the plan remains suspended.
