According to reports, the production of the upcoming film Highlander is now scheduled to take place in 2026. It is due to an injury faced by actor Henry Cavill during the pre-production phase of the film.
However, the nature of the injury has not been revealed yet. Fans of the Highlander franchise have been speculating since the news broke out.
Henry Cavill's injury has fans concerned
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the shoot was to commence this month.
The Witcher actor was deep in preparation for the upcoming film. As per the outlet, this is what Henry Cavill said to the fans during CinemaCon last year, 2024:
“If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Going by his statement, we are surely in for a treat. Helmer Chad Stahelski has also played his part in building the hype.
Perhaps the preparation for the high-stakes action scenes contributed to the leading man's injury.
A user on Twitter, named @SkyheartV, commented on a post by @CultureCrave:

A user on Reddit named x/bluesilvergold recalls a past injury experienced by the actor whilst filming The Witcher:
He got injured on The Witcher a few years ago. I think he tore a hamstring. Could very well be that he re-injured it.
A Redditor named x/Mayonnaise_Poptart reckoned Cavill might have injured his shoulder:
Based on the almost nothing I know about this I'm guessing shoulder injury. That's the kind of thing that would prevent you from doing highlander stuff.
Another user x/Bing_Bong_the_Archer added:
They could probably focus on lowlander stuff in the meantime

Many people are also speculating about the future of the Highlander movie in relation to the recent turn of events. The Twitter handle of a marketing company named @Imperionstudios made a detailed prediction about the film's future:

Regarding the repercussions of the production's delay, a Redditor x/Kevbot1000 commenting under the post of r/movies mentioned that the shift in the production's date has significantly impacted the crew members attached to the project:
Filmworker here. All those crew members lost their employment, plain and simple.
Some may get called back, some wont. The ones that get called back may already take another gig that doesnt allow them to do Highlander (that's if they can get work.)

Highlander is a reimagination of the OG 1986 cult film starring Christopher Lambert, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown, and many others. This iconic film has paved the way for numerous interpretations.
A particular line in this film, "There can be only one", has marked its place in pop culture over the years.
Along with Cavill, the film also stars Dave Bautista, Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Marisa Abela, Max Zhang, and Djimon Hounsou. It follows the plot of a Scottish swordsman who is gifted with the boon of immortality. However, he is now in confrontation with several others of his kind to fulfill a certain motive.
Apart from his role as Superman and as Geralt of Rivia in The Witchers, the British actor has also worked in films and series, including The Tudors (2007-2010), Immortals (2011), The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015), Enola Holmes (2020), The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024), and many more.
