Leah Lewis has spoken out regarding the allegations against her Matlock co-star, David Del Rio. It has been alleged that he se*ually assaulted her.

According to a report in Deadline, Rio departed the CBS series after he allegedly assaulted Lewis on September 26, 2025. Lewis reportedly filed the complaint on October 2, 2025, the same day Rio was removed from the Paramount set.

Taking to her Instagram on October 9, 2025, Leah Lewis shared a picture hugging her mom. She wrote:

“Mom is here, we’re moving forward in love and strength. I’m in good hands. Thank you to everybody for any kind of support and care. Truly, we’re moving forward in strength. Key word, strength. Please, let that be the take away.”

She was in a long-term relationship with Payson Lewis. However, the couple split in February 2023. So, as of 2025, they are no longer together.

All we need to know about Leah Lewis

Leah Lewis is a Chinese-born American actress and singer. She was born on December 9, 1996, as Leah Marie Liang Lewis, in Shanghai, China.

When she was six months old, she was adopted by her parents, Fred and Lorraine, from an orphanage in China, and raised in Windermere, Florida. She has a younger sister named Lydia, who was also adopted from the same orphanage.

Although Leah Lewis was adopted by American parents, they tried their best to keep the Chinese culture alive for their daughter as much as possible during her upbringing. In her personal piece on Timid Magazine, Lewis wrote:

“Growing up, my mother would encourage us to learn about our Chinese heritage, but I never fully appreciated what she was trying to do. My parents tried their best to keep the Chinese culture alive even though we lived in a small, predominately white Florida town.”

She added further:

“My mother enrolled us in Mandarin classes and took us to places where we could socialize with other adopted Chinese kids. I even remember getting dressed up for Chinese New Year with my family and friends.”

She gained recognition with her performance as Ellie Chu in the 2020 Netflix film The Half of It. She is also known for portraying the role of Ember in Pixar’s animated feature, Elemental (2023), and also portrayed the role of ‘George Fan’ in the CW series, Nancy Drew.

In addition to acting, Leah Lewis is also a singer. She has been writing her songs since the age of 15.

She was one of the contestants on Season 4 of the American singing talent show The Voice in 2013. Reportedly, Lewis participated in the Blind Auditions and sang Blown Away by Carrie Underwood. However, she didn’t progress in the talent hunt show.

Lewis previously dated Payson Lewis, a musician and actor. They reportedly began dating in May 2016 and had a long-term relationship. She featured with him in the 2023 video of Back in Time, which they recorded in 2021. The song was written by Lewis in 2021, but it was not released until February 2023, after their breakup.
