The walls are closing in on Sophia: Days of our Lives Two Scoops for the week of February 3, 2025

Between Brady, Sarah, Kayla, Chanel, and Johnny, Sophia’s secret on Days of our Lives is about to be exposed. Johnny and Chanel put on their Sherlock Holmes caps and figured out that Holly wasn’t the one who sent the racy pics of herself to Johnny. I’m glad this secret is on the fast track to being exposed because Johnny and Chanel need the adoption to happen.

Jennifer returned and was apoplectic to find out that Chad and Cat were dating. She kept going on and on about it. Kayla gave her a nice speech about forgiveness, but in the end, she wouldn’t let her anger go. Holding onto that kind of anger can be detrimental to someone, and she needs to just get over herself. But Jack showed up, and there was a love fest for Melissa Reeves’ 40 years playing Jennifer.

Maggie, Philip, and Xander stood their ground against Tony! It was a great sequence because Tony was banking on the fact that their family couldn’t get along. He didn’t expect them to be so united, and it caught him off guard. They told him he could have DiMera Enterprises back, but they would be keeping Titan. Ultimately, the Kiraki won the day even though they’re well aware that the company could die after being pulled from the merger. But it was nice to finally see them united and mean it!

DAYS OF OUR LIVES LOOSE ENDS

Am I the only one who’s concerned that Jeremy Horton, a former abuser, is now teaching kids? Granted, it’s not public knowledge that he slapped Stephanie around years ago. But his return either means he’s on a redemption arc or he’s biding his villainous time, waiting to cause trouble again. Thankfully, Steve asked Rafe to look into Jeremy, so we’ll see what he digs up.

Arianna and Theo had a conversation over coffee and didn’t even know each other’s names at first. There were some definite sparks between them, so we’ll see where that goes.

So, which way is Sophia going? Is she feeling like she’s on a runaway horse and can’t do anything to hold on? Meaning, she’s started this web of lies and can’t stop, and has to keep doing more heinous things to keep the lies a secret. Or, did she just snap somewhere along the way and either do something horrible to her baby, or is she just turning evil?

Sarah confronted Sophia about what really happened to her baby. Sophia tried blowing her off, so a stern Sarah grabbed her by the arm. This created some scary imagery where you see the almost malicious look on Sophia’s face, while Sarah’s looking more serious than a mob boss at tax time.

So the questions that linger are: Is Tesoro Sophia’s baby, or did she do something heinous? And, if it is hers, who is the baby’s father? Aaron? New Doug? Professor Dalton from Port Charles? Inquiring minds want to know!

EXTRA SCOOPS

When Maggie, Philip, and Xander met with Tony, he quoted Shakespeare, saying, “Well, to borrow from the Bard, ‘A fool thinks himself to be wise. But a wise man or woman knows herself to be a fool.’ ” He was warning them that if Titan were to be extricated from Titan-DiMera, it could go belly up. The quote is from William Shakespeare's play, As You Like It, Act 5, Scene 1.

It’s spoken by the character Touchstone, the court jester, to a character named William. The full line is: "The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool".

In a great sequence of scenes, Chanel and Johnny, little by little, figured out that Sophia was the one who sent those racy pics from Holly’s phone. When they started, Chanel said, “Okay, so let’s pretend that we’re in one of those noir films that you love so much. All right, first we have to come up with a list of suspects.” Film noir is an American cinematic style of the 1940s and 1950s characterized by dark, pessimistic themes and visual elements like low-key, shadowy lighting, and distorted camera angles to create a mood of crime, moral ambiguity, and suspense. Originating in the wake of World War II, it features cynical anti-heroes, femme fatales, and themes of disillusionment with the American Dream, often told through complex, intricate plots and voice-over narration.

SHOT OF THE WEEK

When Maggie, Philip, and Xander went to meet with Tony, there was a shot of him sitting with a crystal ball next to him on a table. It looked really amazing. He was kind of muttering to Stefano, and the eerie shot made me wonder if there’s a supernatural element to their resurrection of The Phoenix.

TONY’S OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

Tony’s outfit this week had classic “DiMera power move” written all over it. He wore a sharp black suit that fit clean and structured through the shoulders, paired with a subtle black shirt patterned with tiny light dots that gave it texture without distracting from the sleek look. His black tie was neatly knotted and added to the no-nonsense vibe.

A folded check-patterned pocket square peeked out just enough to add a touch of elegance. The clear eyeglass frames softened the intensity of the all-black ensemble, making the overall look polished but still quietly intimidating — very much “don’t mess with me” energy.

When Xander was on his way to meet Maggie and Philip so they could have a meeting with Tony about the fate of their companies, Sarah kissed him for good luck. He said he would need it, and she replied, “Well, I will, uh, leave you to it. Knock ‘em dead.” She then thought better of it and added, “But not, like, literally, though.”

When Tate asked Ari if the rumor of Holly and Johnny messing around was true, she reacted, “Did Uncle Brady and Aunt Theresa drop you on the head as a baby? Tate, obviously, it’s not true!”

During the major Kiriakis/DiMera confrontation, Maggie told Tony, “I don’t blame you for trying to come between us, Tony, but you failed. Throw whatever you’d like to at us, but we’re not backing down.” Tony’s erudite response was, “Yes. Well, until then, I’ll take DiMera back, and you can pick up the scraps of what’s left of the mighty Titan Industries. Meanwhile, I suspect I’ll be snapping it up in a matter of months, because you’re gonna be having to hold an embarrassing fire sale.”

Xander told Philip that his marriage was finally in a good place again, adding, “That wouldn’t have been possible if you told Sarah that I…well…” Philip finished his sentence, “Beat me within an inch of my life?” He then hilariously continued, “I mean, I’m not saying I had it coming, but if I were in your shoes, I probably would have wanted to pummel me too.”

Leo and Javi bumped into Ari in Horton Square, and Javi asked how Holly was doing. She responded that she was doing well physically, but mentally was another story. Leo, of course, said, “Ooh, I love a good story.” He then quickly caught himself and stated, “I’m sorry. My therapist and I are working on respecting boundaries, so…boundary respected.”

Leo tried using his contacts to find out what was going on with Tesoro’s adoption, but came up empty. He stated, “My sources have nothing on Johnny and Chanel. Nothing on the other prospective parents in the running for Tesoro.” He then thought for a second and added, “You know, maybe since I relinquished the whole Lady Whistleblower empire, my tea spillage abilities have atrophied.”

REACTION OF THE WEEK

When Tony explained that he couldn’t understand why Xander would honor Victor’s memory, because he never admitted that the Scot was his son while he was alive, Xander told him he didn’t need to understand. Tony then indicated Philip and added, “Meanwhile, he doted on this spoiled, shiftless brother of yours.” Philip had the most hilarious reaction on his face and emphatically said, “Go TO hell.”

RANDOM DAYS OF OUR LIVES THOUGHTS

So, in the very beginning of Monday’s episode, there was a computer-generated shot of a suburban neighborhood in Salem. I like the CGI establishing shots, and they’ve been adding more and more lately. I think it’s cool because the special effects guys are not limited by any existing city, just their imaginations. Although I have noticed a few inconsistencies in the writing when Salem is talked about. Sometimes it’s referred to as a small town, and other times it’s a bustling city. At this point, you would think that would have been fully hammered out, but I’m just nitpicking here.

I’m still dying to know exactly what Cat and Rafe suspect EJ is up to. I like them working together. At one point in the week, he told her he wanted to continue her self-defense training. Apparently, the ISA doesn’t have it in its budget to give all its employees self-defense lessons, even though they go up against bad guys often. Sure, Cat was just an analyst, but even General Hospital’s Josslyn had a month of training before being sent into the field.

There was a great moment where Jennifer was tearing Chad a new one (because…Cat) and he just stood there and took it, then said, “Are you done?” and he walked away. Good for him. He’s a freakin’ grown man and can date whoever he wants. Sadly, he broke things off with Cat to appease Julie and Jennifer, and I think that was a bad move. You know they’ll eventually get back together. Maybe if her secret spy identity is revealed, at least to her haters, they’ll change their minds.

I’m still finding some confusion about the Sophia/baby/Tesoro twist. Maybe I’m hearing things wrong, but I felt they kept switching whose DNA was tested and who was the parent or not, but I think it was cleared up by Friday.

Let’s see if I have this right: Brady got the DNA so that Tesoro could be compared against Tate, and it turned out Tate’s not his father. But then at one point, Sarah told Sophia that she was tested, but then that got retconned, and they learned that Tate’s not the father. But this seemed like a shock to Sophia, so perhaps she did something awful to the baby, and Tesoro belongs to some other woman who dropped him off at the fire station.

Maggie gave Philip a great rallying speech and told him that Victor wouldn’t be upset about Philip’s deception. He would rather have had them all work together. He worried that Titan would go under after it was extracted from Titan-DiMera, and she responded, “Then, um, we rebuild. Your father built Titan from the ground up, all by himself.” She then added, “See, what Tony doesn’t realize is that you and your brother have accepted the fact that the Kiriakis family is much stronger together.” That was a great moment, and she’s absolutely right.

It was nice seeing flashbacks of Jack and Jennifer, especially when Jennifer was just a kid! We got to see young Jack and Jennifer through the years. But the best blast from the past was her awesome '80s jacket as depicted above. You just can’t beat those awesome pastels with the parachute pants! We also got a clip of Tom Horton reading her one of his poems. It’s nice that the show has such a rich history to draw from, and it's even nicer when the show does it!

PARTING THOUGHTS

It’s currently October, and I’m excited for Halloween in Salem! Leo showed Javi the awesome pirate Halloween costume he got for baby Tesoro. I’m sure the trick or treating will be fun, but I’m hoping for something more supernatural as well, especially if Tony, EJ, and Gwen are going to merge science with sorcery to bring Stefano back from the grave!
