Jada began to lead a protesting Vivian out of Philip’s room at the Salem Inn. Jada received a call from Rafe and filled him in on her apprehension of Vivian. Rafe congratulated her but warned that she should be careful around Vivian. Just then, at the police station, Rafe heard a struggle and a gunshot over the phone line.

Later, Rafe approached the room with his gun drawn. He called out to Jada and kicked in the door. When he entered, he gasped, “Oh my God!” Vivian lay unconscious on the floor, and Jada was calling an ambulance. After confirming that Jada was not hurt, Rafe asked if Vivian had been shot.

Jada explained that Vivian had tried to grab her gun from the holster. A struggle had ensued, and Vivian had fallen backward, hitting her head on a desk. Rafe tried to rouse Vivian as Jada looked on worriedly.

Later, at the hospital, a bandaged Vivian commanded Rafe to arrest Jada for assault. Rafe smirked and said Vivian could take her complaint up with the acting commissioner, then pointed to Jada. Vivian demanded to speak to the mayor. Jada reminded the bedridden woman that she had instigated the assault, while Rafe promised Vivian that her next stop would be a jail cell. Vivian next insisted on seeing a lawyer, and Rafe admitted that he was happy Vivian could no longer hurt anyone he cared about.

Jada and Rafe moved outside the hospital room and discussed Vivian’s apprehension. Rafe admitted how afraid he had been when he’d heard the gunshot. Jada had realized from the experience that they could never take anything for granted. Rafe agreed and pulled out a ring box, to Jada’s astonishment. He proclaimed that "time waits for no one" and then got down on one knee.

Jada put her hand to her mouth as Rafe mused about how he’d planned a grand romantic dinner but how that moment in the hospital seemed right. As he opened the box, he said that his aunt had gifted him the ring with instructions to give it to someone he would love for the rest of his life. Rafe confirmed with a smile that Jada was that person and asked her to marry him. He lightly prodded her for an answer, and she said, “Yes.” The newly engaged couple shared exuberant hugs and kisses as the crowd of gathered spectators applauded.

At the DiMera mansion, a sympathetic EJ listened over the phone as Chad told him about his experience with the Abigail impostor, Cat. Chad lamented the circumstances and expressed relief that he hadn’t told the kids about their mother possibly being alive. EJ promised Chad he would do everything in his power to bring Cat and her brother to justice.

Chad opened up about how it had felt like a dream come true when he believed Abigail had returned to him. EJ conveyed his deep regret for what his brother was going through. The call was interrupted and ended when EJ heard a commotion at the door. He just missed seeing Ivan break in and sneak upstairs. EJ did answer the door to another unexpected visitor: Gabi.

Gabi demanded to talk with Stefan. EJ observed the divorce papers in her hand and wondered why Gabi wanted to see his brother. Gabi shot back that it was none of EJ’s business, and EJ reminded her that she had put him in the middle of it by “climbing into my bed.” Gabi got testy and asked again if Stefan was home. EJ invited her to go upstairs and check, which she did.

Upstairs, Ivan entered Stefan’s room. He pledged to take care of everything for his “Madame.” He retrieved a suitcase and began putting Stefan’s clothes in it. He talked aloud about Vivian’s plan to make it look like Stefan had left town of his own accord. When he finished packing the suitcase, Ivan said there was one more detail and pulled out a letter.

On the other side of the door, Gabi pondered receiving the divorce papers. After a moment’s pause, she entered the room, only to find it empty. She spotted the letter, which was addressed to EJ. When EJ appeared at the door, Gabi handed him the letter and demanded he read it.

In the letter, “Stefan” claimed he couldn’t get past what EJ and Gabi had done, and he called their affair “the ultimate betrayal.” Since neither EJ nor Gabi would leave Salem, “Stefan” felt he had to be the one to go. “Stefan” had decided that E.J. and Gabi deserved each other. He said he would never forgive either of them and declared both dead to him. “Stefan” ended the letter with “Goodbye forever.”

When EJ finished reading the contents, an emotional Gabi hurried out of the room. EJ followed after her. Ivan reemerged from the shadows, pleased with the success of Vivian’s latest forgery. Later, Ivan stopped by Vivian’s room at the inn and was startled to find that police tape covered the door. He received a call from his “Madame.”

Later, Ivan rushed into Vivian’s hospital room. After confirming she was okay, Ivan boasted about how well Vivian’s plan for Stefan and Gabi had gone. Vivian considered Gabi’s despair “consolation.”

Back downstairs at the mansion, EJ caught up to Gabi and reached out a comforting hand. She recoiled and yelled at him not to touch her. Gabi then tore into EJ, blaming him for the end of her marriage and attesting that he left “a trail of misery” wherever he went. When EJ suggested that Gabi must take responsibility for her actions, she demanded he get out of her sight. EJ complied, but not before reminding Gabi that the mansion was his home.

Later, a tearful Gabi pledged that if Stefan wanted a divorce, she would give it to him. She angrily signed the divorce papers.

Mark (Jonah Robinson) confessed the truth to Aaron.
Mark (Jonah Robinson) confessed the truth to Aaron.

As they waited in their respective holding cells, Cat updated Mark on the disappearance of Abigail’s body. She admitted that she had hoped Chad had come to see her for another reason, and Mark correctly surmised that Cat still had strong feelings for Chad. She deeply regretted the pain they had caused Chad. Mark reminded his sister that they had taken such extreme actions to save their mother, but Cat challenged the idea that their mother was still alive. Cat dreaded the prospect of telling their siblings that they had lost their mother all over again.

Cat admitted how much it hurt to see Aaron and Felicity treating her as a stranger. She believed they should tell the kids the entire truth. Mark wondered if they had already heard about the arrests. On cue, Aaron rushed up to Mark’s cell and pleaded with his brother to say it had all been a mistake. Aaron grew agitated with Mark’s continued silence and refusal to answer his questions.

Aaron blasted Mark for keeping Felicity and him in the dark, and he was aghast at how they would explain the developments to their sister. Mark insisted it was “complicated,” and he didn’t want to involve his siblings. “In murder?” Aaron asked incredulously. Mark eventually confessed that he was in jail because he had been trying to save their mother. Aaron was confused and reminded Mark that their mother was dead.

Aaron noticed when Mark shot a look at Cat. He turned and asked why Mark was staring at her. Aaron recognized Cat as the woman from the park, adding to his confusion and distress. He turned back to Mark and demanded to know why Mark had claimed their mother was alive. Mark explained that the siblings had been led to believe both of their parents had died in the crash, but their mother had actually survived.

Mark then reluctantly admitted that a drug lord named Clyde Weston had gotten hold of their mother and had been blackmailing Mark to do his bidding. A stunned Aaron absorbed the news and then stated bluntly that Clyde needed to pay. Mark warned Aaron not to get involved, but Aaron countered that he didn’t need to listen to Mark anymore. He had trusted Mark more than anyone in his life, and that trust was broken. Mark reiterated that he had been trying to protect his family, and he warned Aaron about the dangers of the situation.

Cat chimed in and told Aaron to listen to Mark. Aaron raged at her to stay out of the conversation because it was a family matter and had nothing to do with her. Cat hinted that it did involve her. She then confessed that she was Aaron’s sister. A rattled Aaron approached her cell and refuted the claim.

Aaron wanted to know if she was working with Clyde. She denied the accusation and added, “It’s me, Cat.” A wide-eyed Aaron tried to make sense of what he was hearing, since his sister Cat had been involved in the car accident with their parents and had been sent to a rehab facility. Cat confirmed that she’d had extensive injuries and that she didn’t look the same because of the many surgeries she’d undergone. She then smiled and jokingly reminded Aaron of all the times she’d secretly let him play video games that their parents had forbidden.

Aaron grinned at the memories and eventually accepted that his sister was standing in front of him. He was overjoyed. Aaron was also excited by the news that his mother was still alive. He turned to Mark and asked when he could see her. Mark and Cat reluctantly explained to Aaron that Clyde had their mother and that they didn’t know if she was still alive.

Aaron grew upset again and lashed out at Cat and Mark for not going to the police. They tried to calm him down, but Aaron rebuffed their attempts at comfort. Aaron worried about what he would tell Felicity. Mark again warned him against doing something rash. Aaron said he needed to leave and stormed off, as Cat called after him.

At the Horton house, Chad mulled over a picture of Abigail and himself as he thought back to confronting Cat. Steve came by to check on Chad, and Chad profusely thanked him for his help in discovering the truth. Steve assured Chad that he would do anything for his family, which included Chad and the kids. He urged Chad to stop beating himself up for not realizing that Cat had been an impostor.

Chad told Steve about his recent chat with Cat regarding the location of Abigail’s body. He then asked Steve for help getting in to see Clyde at the prison. Steve had to break the news that Clyde had escaped from the facility. Chad was outraged, and Steve vowed they would find Clyde and put Abigail to rest. Just then, Chad answered a call, and Clyde gleefully greeted him.

Chad sarcastically asked if Clyde was disappointed that he was still alive. Clyde shrugged it off with, “You win some, you lose some.” Chad instructed Clyde to tell him about the location of Abigail’s body. Clyde said he’d happily reunite Chad with “what was left” of his Abigail…for a price.

After Clyde made his demands, Steve interrupted and asked what Clyde wanted. Clyde realized that Steve was in the room and snidely stated that Steve would never approve of what Chad had been asked to do. He told Chad to say, “Go to hell” if Chad agreed to the demand. Chad did just that, and Clyde was pleased by Chad’s answer.

After Chad hung up, Steve pressed him on what had happened. Chad lied and claimed that Clyde would not give him any information and that the convict had just called to gloat. Steve confirmed that he would get to work immediately on tracking down Clyde.

Later, EJ arrived after Chad summoned him to the house. EJ briefly updated Chad on Stefan’s apparent departure and then reaffirmed to his brother that he would make Cat and Mark face the music. Chad was fine with EJ “throwing the book” at Mark. He caught EJ off-guard, however, when he said that he wanted Cat to go free.
