Ava was working in the Bistro when Brady stopped in to say hello. Ava asked Brady about their previous conversation regarding Tate and Sophia. “I don’t want to violate Tate’s privacy,” Brady said. When Ava started to tell Brady that Tate and Sophia had slept together, she stopped herself. Brady guessed what she had been about to say, and he told her he already knew.

“Happened underneath my own roof,” Brady muttered. Ava laughed. “I hope things work out between Tate and Sophia because she is clearly smitten with your son. And I hope that he is equally smitten with her,” Ava said. Brady was eager to change the subject, but Ava pushed him to confirm whether Tate was over Holly. Brady remained stone-faced. “You are a tough nut to crack,” Ava said. “I would love some club soda,” Brady said.

When Ava returned with the drinks, Brady told her that Kristen had given the serum to Sarah. “I’m just hoping and praying that Sarah is going to be able to walk very soon,” Brady said. “That is amazing, but I just don’t see Kristen doing something like this without strings attached,” Ava said. Brady admitted Ava was right. Brady told Ava about Kristen’s attempted blackmail attempt and how he had changed Kristen’s mind.

“What, your wish is her command?” Ava asked. “God knows, not usually,” Brady said. Ava asked Brady what was different this time. “I told her that if she forces Xander to give the company to her in exchange for the serum, that she could kiss any chance that we had of ever getting back together goodbye,” Brady explained. Ava laughed. Brady admitted it had been a manipulative move.

“I just wonder, well, was it a total manipulation? Or is there a chance for the two of you?” Ava asked. Brady said that he did not completely rule out a reconciliation with Kristen because of Rachel. “Even though it would mean the world for Rachel to have her parents together and have us be a family again, my head tells me to run the other direction and don’t look back,” Brady said. “And what does your heart tell you?” Ava countered. Brady noted that his heart was with his daughter.

“I’m obviously conflicted about this,” Brady said with a chuckle. Brady added that Kristen knew a reconciliation was unlikely and that he had not made any promises to her. Ava raised an eyebrow. “You may think you made no promises to Kristen, but don’t you think it’s possible she heard what she wanted to hear?” Ava asked.

In the DiMera living room, EJ talked with Paulina about Cat’s release from jail on the phone. As EJ ended the call, Kristen walked in and asked about it. “Why did you let that imposter go?” Kristen said. “Rest assured, I have the whole Cat Greene situation well in hand,” EJ said. With a smirk, Kristen noted that she had never believed that Cat had been Abigail. EJ joked that Kristen should apply to the police academy to become a detective. EJ added that Kristen would need work since she had “botched the Titan takeover.”

“I didn’t botch up anything,” Kristen said. Kristen explained that Philip had blocked the deal with a court injunction. “I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble. I simply chose to give Sarah the serum, no strings attached,” Kristen said. “Why would you just give away your advantage?” EJ asked. Kristen smirked. “I did it for love,” Kristen said. EJ shook his head with disgust.

“Despite the fact that [Brady] promised nothing in return?” EJ asked. “Of course, Brady offered something in return. He told me that the only way that he and I could get back together is if I helped Sarah walk again,” Kristen said. EJ asked Kristen if Brady had made any guarantees about a relationship. “And what guarantee should I have asked for?” Kristen countered. EJ argued that Kristen should have at least secured “a promise of a future.”

“You gave away that miracle cure and ended up with nothing,” EJ said. Kristen scowled, and she called EJ cynical. “You will be proven wrong. So where has your negotiating skills gotten you? With Sami? With Nicole?” Kristen asked. EJ called Kristen deluded about Brady. “I’d be shocked if he ever showed his face around here again,” EJ said. Brady walked into the room.

“You were saying,” Kristen said. EJ’s phone rang with a call from Paulina, so he left the room. “I can’t stay long,” Brady said. Kristen informed Brady that she had taken Xander and Sarah to Rolf’s lab to retrieve the notes about the administration of the treatment. “That is great. I got to say, I’m very impressed with the way in which you’re doing the right thing here,” Brady said. Brady said he was there to return the friendship bracelet that Rachel had left in his car. Kristen hid her disappointment, and she thanked Brady.

Brady started to leave, but he stopped in the doorway. “Kristen, I think it’s important that you understand something. That although I’m grateful for everything you’re doing with Sarah and the serum, it doesn’t necessarily change things between us. And I can’t make any promises, okay?” Brady said. Kristen forced a smile and nodded yes. Brady asked Kristen to tell Rachel that he loved her and would call her. Kristen nodded. After Brady walked out, EJ returned. “So?” EJ asked. EJ mockingly asked if Brady had asked Kristen to take him back. Tears welled in Kristen’s eyes.

At the hospital, Kayla told Steve on the phone that she was leaving work. “You can’t leave! Not until you’ve helped Sarah walk again,” Xander said as he presented a vial of the serum. Sarah explained the situation, and Xander handed the two vials to Kayla.

“So combining these two will result in a serum that could cure your paralysis?” Kayla said. “That’s what we’ve been told. But I have no idea the dosage or how it’s supposed to be administered,” Sarah confirmed. “That’s why we’re here. Kayla, Sarah trusts you to be the one to figure out how to get her out of this wheelchair and hopefully walking again,” Xander said. Kayla appeared skeptical, especially when Sarah explained that Dr. Rolf had developed the serum.

“So we’re left to trust Kristen and Rolf. Just flying blind?” Kayla said. Sarah handed Kristen a packet of notes that Rolf had left behind for them to use. “I’m just hoping with these notes, you and I can figure out what to do next,” Sarah said. Kayla read through the notes, and she and Sarah discussed the issues that were unclear. Concerned, Xander asked the women to explain the problem in layman terms for him. Sarah explained that the serum would need to be administered directly into her spine over a period of hours.

“Which carries significant risks. I honestly don’t know if I’m comfortable doing it,” Kayla said. Xander asked why it was risky. Sarah noted that her spine still had swelling and that they did not know how the swelling would react if the serum was administered. “Sarah’s condition could be irreversible [if the swelling gets worse],” Kayla said. Xander nodded.

“I remember you saying immediately after Sarah’s accident that there was a chance that Sarah might recover without treatment. But at this point, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen. Could the serum really make her condition any worse?” Xander asked. Kayla shrugged, and she noted that a criminally insane person had created the serum. Xander kneeled before Sarah, and he looked her in the eyes.

“I’m going to love you and see to it that we live our best lives together, regardless of what you do. Whatever you choose. I’m sure you know that,” Xander said. “I do. I also know that our little girl is going to be taking her first steps any day now. So I am willing to take this chance if it means I can be standing with her, holding her hand,” Sarah said. Xander nodded at Sarah, and he told Kayla that he and Sarah understood the risks of the procedure. “Kayla, will you please give me the serum?” Sarah asked.

At the penthouse, Tate and Sophia were about to have sex in his room when he mistakenly called her Holly. “What did you just call me?” Sophia said as she pushed Tate away. Confused, Tate said he had whispered Sophia’s name. “No, you didn’t say my name, you said Holly’s,” Sophia said. Tatte appeared puzzled. “I swear, I really don’t remember calling you Holly,” Tate said. Sophia accused Tate of gaslighting her.

“I know what I heard. It was your ex-girlfriend’s name, and meaning that although you’re in bed here with me, you’re thinking about her,” Sophia argued. “I guess if you heard me say Holly, I must have said Holly,” Tate admitted. Sophia was furious. Tate apologized. “It’s just when Holly and I broke up, she took it really hard. And so, yes, I’ve been thinking about her. But it has nothing to do with how I feel about you,” Tate stressed. Sophia glared at Tate as he cuddled close to her.

“Why don’t we just focus on you and me?” Tate said. “I was focused on you and me. But you were focused on Holly!” Sophia said. Tate apologized again, but Sophia argued that Tate did not actually care about her. Sophia accused Tate of using sex with her to imagine it was with Holly. “No, that is not true,” Tate countered. Sophia asked Tate to admit that he regretted that he had rejected Holly’s offer to get back together. Tate said nothing.

Upset, Sophia jumped out of bed and got dressed. “Damn it, Tate! I made it clear that I only wanted to be with you if I was the one you wanted to be with. And you said I was. But obviously, you were lying!” Sophia said. “No! I was not lying. I promise,” Tate stressed. Sophia asked Tate if he had only stayed with her out of a sense of honor because they had slept together. “I’m sorry, I don’t see the honor of staying with someone when you really want to be with someone else,” Sophia argued. Tate agreed.

“I admit that I screwed up here. I was just trying not to hurt anyone. And I really want to do the right thing. But I don’t know what the right thing is,” Tate said. “Who do you want to be with, Tate? Me or Holly?” Sophia asked. When Tate did not answer, Sophia told him not to bother.

“The look on your face tells me all I need to know. You don’t have the guts to admit it. So just stand there all silent and noble, telling yourself that you did the right thing, and I’ll let you off the hook. You don’t even have to feel guilty about dumping me because I’m dumping you!” Sophia said. “I’m so sorry. I really am. I didn’t intend for any of this to happen. And I just want to say I think you’re great. I really do like you,” Tate said. Sophia shook her head in disbelief.

“We’re not kids anymore, Tate. Liking me isn’t enough. I don’t sleep with people I like. So do yourself a favor and go be with Holly. The girl you really want to be with. And when she breaks your heart, don’t you dare come crying to me,” Sophia said. Sophia stormed out.

In the Kiriakis living room, Holly thought about when Tate told her he had slept with Sophia. Maggie walked in. “I’ve got some wonderful news. Kristen agreed to give Sarah the serum,” Maggie announced. Maggie explained that Brady had convinced Kristen to give Sarah the serum without anything in exchange. “Kristen DiMera has a heart?” Holly said with a chuckle.

“At least in this time, in this instance, I don’t know. [Kristen] listened to her better angels,” Maggie said. “Has Aunt Sarah taken [the serum] yet?” Holly asked. Maggie informed Holly that Sarah and Xander had gone to the hospital to discuss the treatment with Kayla. Holly promised to pray for a good outcome.

“So, tell me, what’s going on in your life?” Maggie asked. “With all this great news, it kind of feels weird to talk about myself,” Holly admitted. Maggie noted that it was obvious that Holly was sad. With a nod, Holly confessed that she was struggling with her breakup. Holly told Maggie about her conversation with Tate. “I think it’s admirable that Tate wanted to avoid hurting Sophia. I’m just not happy that you got hurt in the process,” Maggie said. Maggie’s phone beeped with a message from Sarah. Maggie hugged Holly goodbye, and she left for the hospital.

At the Bistro, Ava was working on the books for the restaurant when a dejected Sophia walked in. “I know you’re about to close for the night. But I needed to see you,” Sophia said. “I can see you’re upset. Sit down,” Ava said. Sophia fought back tears, and she called herself a fool. “What happened?” Ava asked. “[Tate] and I are finished,” Sophia said. Confused, Ava asked Sophia, “I thought you took your relationship to the next level?” Sophia explained that Tate had called out Holly’s name during sex.

“I called him on it. He could barely say another word. Like, he couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that he wanted to be with her and not me. So I ended it between us, and I walked out,” Sophia said. “Okay. Good for you. You got out of there with your dignity,” Ava said. Sophia started to cry. “I’m not sure I did, Ava. I feel so used. So humiliated,” Sophia said. Ava reminded Sophia that Tate was to blame.

“[Tate] made you think that he was over Holly Jonas, and clearly he wasn’t. Honey, this is not about you. This is on him,” Ava said. Ava held Sophia’s hand. “I told him he should go be with Holly, so he probably went running back to her as soon as I left,” Sophia said. Ava pulled Sophia into her arms so Sophia could cry. “Baby, I’m so sorry,” Ava said.

Holly was staring at her phone when Tate walked into the Kiriakis living room. “So I take it you don’t have plans with Sophia tonight then?” Holly asked. “I did. But Sophia and I aren’t together anymore,” Tate admitted. Tate told Holly he had made a mistake. “I should have been more honest with [Sophia] and myself about what I wanted and what I was feeling. I also made a really, really big mistake with you,” Tate said. “What mistake?” Holly asked. Tate confessed that when Holly had asked him to get back together, he had wanted to say yes.

“But then my head and my heart, they were going in opposite directions, and I very stupidly went with what my head was telling me. And I did what I thought was the right thing to do,” Tate said. “You stayed with Sophia because you guys slept together,” Holly whispered. Tate nodded yes. “I really feel terrible for hurting her. But I should have known that it wasn’t going to work. Because all I ever wanted was you,” Tate confessed. Tate kissed Holly.

When Maggie arrived at the hospital, Xander informed her that Kayla had agreed to administer the serum. “That’s wonderful news!” Maggie said. Xander explained that Kayla was prepping Sarah for the procedure. “If everything goes right, [Sarah] will be walking out of here,” Xander said.

Xander and Maggie joined Sarah in her hospital room. “I tested a small sample in the lab,” Kayla announced. “And is the composition the same as the formula in Rolf’s notes?” Sarah asked. Kayla grinned. “It was an exact match,” Kayla said. Kayla noted that, in theory, the treatment should work. Kayla held up a syringe with the solution. “That’s a pretty big needle,” Xander muttered. “Not gonna pass out on us, are you, big guy?” Sarah joked. Xander smiled at Sarah. “We don’t need to do this tonight,” Kayla assured Sarah. Sarah looked at Xander and Maggie. “Let’s do this. Now,” Sarah said.
