Bryan Dattilo wraps DAYS run; Nadia Bjorlin shares special goodbye

Days of our Lives' Bryan Dattilo has wrapped up his time as Lucas Horton, prompting costar Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane) to share a heartfelt goodbye.

After more than 25 years of playing Lucas Horton, Bryan Dattilo has ended his run at Days of our Lives. His beloved character took off to Europe last week, leaving legions of fans disheartened and grieving.

One of the disappointed fans happens to be Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane), who admits her costar's departure took her a little off guard.

"Lucas leaving Salem was very sudden," she tells Soaps In Depth. "We both didn't know that and it made me sad. I love Bryan and I loved working with him."

News of Dattilo's fate first broke in June of this year, when the actor tweeted: "25 years. 2 months. 12 days. And 4 hours. Good run. Thanks to my Days family and fans. Enjoy Lucas while you can."

Dattilo's final months on the canvas saw Lucas reuniting with Bjorlin's Chloe, whom the character had dated a decade earlier. And the pairing is something the actress says she's been extremely grateful for.

"It was interesting that they revisited our relationship almost 10 years later," she shares. "I felt like it was a really different dynamic this time because we'd both sort of grown up on and off camera and we both [brought] all this other life experience into this new, sweet relationship."

But it hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows, considering Lucas also had to learn the heartbreaking news that baby Bonnie wasn't his child.

"I feel like it was some of the best work that I've seen him do," Bjorlin says of Dattilo's performance during the emotional scenes. "He genuinely broke my heart."

As for whether or not Dattilo is truly done at DAYS, that remains to be seen. Bjorlin is hopeful that he'll return to the canvas some day in the future. "It's never goodbye in Salem!" she quips.

And if his history with the NBC soap is any indication, he may well return down the road. After all, the powers that be decided to give Lucas "a rest" amid a series of moves to keep the show's budget in check back in 2001. Fans were pleasantly surprised when he reprised the role the following year.
