DAYS outperforms all other soaps in ratings gains

Days of our Lives was the only soap to gain total viewers for the week that bridged November and December.

Days of our Lives brought in renowned head writer Ron Carlivati earlier this year for what may have been the series' last chance to save itself from cancellation, and the smart move seems to be working: ratings are in for the week of November 27 through December 1, and the NBC soap opera not only gained in total viewers, but it was the only soap opera to gain viewers that week.

The exciting storylines on DAYS managed to pull in an additional 19,000 viewers compared the previous week (and 95,000 more compared to the same week last year) for a grand total of 2,398,000 viewers. And while the total viewership number fails to bring the show out of its longstanding place as the least watched network soap opera, it's a step in the right direction -- especially because the show also increased in the key demographics of women 18-49, women 18-34, and women 25-59.

Unfortunately, the news wasn't so good for the other three network daytime dramas. Y&R was down 57,000 viewers compared to the previous week (and 192,000 compared to last year); B&B was down 80,000 viewers compared to the week before (and 207,000 compared to last year); and GH was down 113,000 viewers compared to the week before (but up 21,000 compared to last year).

Why do you think DAYS was the only soap opera to gain in total viewers for the week of November 27? In your opinion, what can Y&R, B&B, and GH do better in the year ahead?
