Great news for daytime alum Greg Vaughan's series, Queen Sugar

Former soap opera star Greg Vaughan (ex-Eric Brady, Days of our Lives; ex-Lucky Spencer, General Hospital; ex-Diego Guttierez, The Young and the Restless) has a big reason to celebrate.

Great news for daytime alum Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady; ex-Lucky Spencer, General Hospital; ex-Diego Guttierrez, The Young and the Restless): his new series, OWN's Queen Sugar, has already been picked up for a second season -- and the first one hasn't even aired yet!

"When we saw the first cut from [award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay], we knew right away that we wanted a second season," said OWN president Erik Logan, who announced the news this week at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) summer press tour. "We think viewers are going to connect with the deeply layered characters and powerful story and are excited to be able to share with them Ava's director's cut on premiere night without interruption. We are proud to be a network that supports a filmmaker's creative vision."

Additionally, the first season has been extended by three episodes.

Queen Sugar is co-created and executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and stars Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Kofi Siriboe as three siblings who move to Louisiana to claim an inheritance from their recently departed father: an 800-acre sugarcane farm. The series also stars DAYS' alum True O'Brien (ex-Paige Larson) and Dondr Whitfield (ex-Terrence Frye, All My Children). Vaughan plays Wesley's character's lover, Calvin.

Queen Sugar premieres on Tuesday, September 6, and Wednesday, September 7, at 10PM ET on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.
