UPDATE: Lawyers set record straight on why Drake Hogestyn is absent from DAYS

Lawyers for Days of our Lives' Drake Hogestyn (John Black) reveal the true story behind the star's on-screen absence and details about the "severe" injuries he reportedly suffered in May.

Days of our Lives fans have been worried about Drake Hogestyn (John Black) ever since news broke that the actor had been temporarily written off of the show after suffering injuries in a freak accident at his home. But it turns out there's much more to the story behind Hogestyn's absence from the NBC soap.

In a statement to Soap Opera Digest, lawyers for the popular series' veteran actor claim he was injured on set on May 5 while filming a stunt that required him to "break" through a prop door that had not been "properly prepared." Hogestyn reportedly "smashed headfirst" into the door and suffered "severe head injuries." He was quickly hospitalized after the accident and is now recovering in his Malibu home.

"Drake, his wife, Victoria, and the Hogestyn family appreciate all the good wishes, prayers and positive thoughts from so many loyal fans, but ask that their privacy be respected at this time," the lawyers state. "Drake's goal is to get back to the show as soon as possible."

At this time, DAYS has not commented on the accident, other than executive producer Ken Corday telling Glamour.com that he and the show wish the actor a speedy recovery.
