James Scott exiting Days of our Lives

After eight years at Days of our Lives, actor James Scott (E.J. DiMera) is exiting the show. The two-time Emmy-nominated actor joined DAYS in May 2006. Prior to that, he had a two-year run on All My Children.

Emmy-nominated Days of our Lives favorite James Scott (E.J. DiMera) has wrapped his eight-year run on with the NBC soap.

"I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to NBC, Sony and Corday, particularly Ken Corday, for the amazing 8 year run on Days of our Lives and for graciously supporting me in my decision in leaving the show to take personal time," Scott said in a statement to Soap Opera Digest. "To the unbelievably loving fans, I can't begin to express my gratitude for your love and support over the years. I will miss you immensely."

Scott joined Days of our Lives in May 2006. During his eight years with DAYS, he earned two Daytime Emmy nominations, Outstanding Lead Actor nods in 2010 and 2011. Before joining DAYS, Scott portrayed Ethan Ramsey on ABC's All My Children from August 2004 to February 2006.

The departure means that one of the show's most popular on-screen couples, E.J. and Sami -- affectionately known as "Ejami" to fans -- will no longer be part of the show. Long-time DAYS star Alison Sweeney (Samantha Brady) stunned fans by announcing earlier this year that she would be exiting DAYS after 21 years.

Scott's last day on the DAYS set was today, May 2. The actor will continue to air through the fall as a result of DAYS' production schedule. A final airdate, however, has not been announced.
