Actor Luca Toolan brought the Coronation Street character Mason Radcliffe to life and made his debut in September 2023. Mason is not a likeable character and has been known to bully Liam Connor and Dylan Wilson during his time on the soap. Mason is a schoolboy at Weatherfield High and is the ring-leader of a bullying gang that dominates his classmates.
It's unclear what the writers have in store for Mason Radcliffe, but fans are not enjoying his evil ways. He was sentenced to the Youth Offenders Centre for his threatening behaviour towards Liam and just this month, Liam's mother Maria received the news that he will be released. Here's what you need to know about Mason.
A closer look at Mason Radcliffe's character
Mason's storyline on the cobbles primarily focuses on him targeting Liam and Dylan. He has been pressuring the boys to get involved in questionable activities, including a hit-and-run incident where Eliza Woodrow was accidentally struck by a car Mason was driving. This highlighted just how violent and manipulative Mason really is.
Mason's main goal is to control those around him using a variety of manipulation and intimidation tactics. Mason threatened Liam with a knife which led to his temporary stint in a Youth Offenders Centre. This didn't stop Mason and when he returned to Weatherfield, everyone, including Liam's family, was concerned.
Dylan decided to stand up to Mason in court despite the pressures not to get involved. Eventually, Mason was found guilty of his crimes and justice was served.
What's next for Luca Toolan?
Luca Toolan has been praised for his performance as Mason Radcliffe. As the son of DJ Mike Toolan, Luca had big shoes to fill and was eager to establish his own name.
The 20-year-old actor has shared what inspires him to play such an evil character with The Mirror:
"My favourite film is The Joker, so I like looking at characters that are damaged. One thing I really want to do with a character is show the vulnerable side."
Luca was obviously very excited to join the show and expressed his excitement on social media:
"There's a new kid joining the cobbles Mason Radcliffe. It's an honour to be a part of a show that I've grown up on that has some of the warmest and most talented people. I feel very lucky because I've had Liam with me and he's been like an older brother to me, even though he's actually younger than me. If I was going in on a storyline by myself, I feel like it'd be a lot more daunting, but everybody's so nice. I didn't know what to expect, but everybody's genuinely lovely."
Fans are eagerly waiting to see what the writers of Coronation Street have in store.
