Delon de Metz chats Obba Babatundé's return to The Bold and the Beautiful

Obba Babatundé is back at The Bold and the Beautiful, and his new on-screen son-in-law, Delon de Metz (Zende Forrester), couldn't be happier to work with the celebrated actor.

The Bold and the Beautiful surprised fans with the return of Obba Babatund in the role of Julius Avant last week, finally bringing executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell's fall preview teasers about the Avant family to fruition. But what can viewers expect from Maya and Nicole's father now that he's back on the canvas?

As viewers saw in Friday's episode, Zende was pleased to learn that though he and Nicole are separated, Julius still supports him and will continue to think of him as a son. The care that Julius showed his son-in-law in the scenes mirrors the care that portrayer Babatund showed Zende's new portrayer, Delon de Metz, who recently took over the role previously played by Rome Flynn.

With B&B following strict COVID-19 safety measures that include social distancing and limited time on set, Babatund hasn't had much of a chance to get to know de Metz in the usual ways -- so he came up with a different method to bond with his new castmate.

Reports de Metz to Soap Central, "Obba Babatund called me the weekend prior [to our first scenes] just to chat. He said, 'Man, we've had a long relationship as characters on the show. I feel like I need to get to know you,' and I really appreciated his doing that. We probably spent about two hours on the phone, just chit-chatting."

Funny that an old-fashioned phone call was just the juice needed to keep the magic of B&B alive during these modern times -- and it may be a communication method that Babatund "calls on" again. As Soap Central reported earlier this month, Karla Mosley announced that her "incredible journey" as Maya has come to an end, which has prompted recast rumors because the actress hasn't appeared on the NBC soap opera since May of last year. Time will tell if the rumors are true, but with Bell having teased that a couple of Avant family members will be making their way back to the screen, seeing Maya with a new face is a definite possibility.

For now, fans can be happy to have Julius back on the canvas -- with or without his daughters. But for those who are craving even more of Babatund, we have good news: the actor appears in the new movie Trigger, which is currently streaming on BET+.

The original film tells the story of Trey Mass (Jeremy Meeks), who is finally home from prison after a ten-year sentence. With nowhere else to go, he visits his brother Collin (Wesley Jonathan), whose wife, Vanessa (Jordyn Woods), is not too excited about the idea of her husband's criminal brother showing up unannounced. She eventually agrees to allow Trey to stay with them for one night -- which turns out to be a fatal decision after Trey accidentally kills a friend of the couple's while trying to protect his brother. Babatund plays Chief Keaton, a no-nonsense individual who steps into the story when a hostage situation ensues.

"What intrigued me about the script is that you think you know all about the officers based on what they do, but I have a saying that says your 'do' is not necessarily your 'who,'" Babatund teases in a video posted to Instagram. "I don't want to go give too much of the movie away, but the intrigue and the drama is well-worth seeing."
