CBS soap stars Darin Brooks, Kelly Kruger chat parenthood in lockdown

The Bold and the Beautiful's Darin Brooks (Wyatt Spencer) and The Young and the Restless' Kelly Kruger (ex-Mackenzie Browning) open up about parenting during quarantine, plus they discuss their future work projects.

The longer the COVID-19 lockdown goes on, the more potential it has to test even the best of relationships -- but The Bold and the Beautiful's Darin Brooks (Wyatt Spencer) and The Young and the Restless' Kelly Kruger (ex-Mackenzie Browning) report that they're stronger than ever in quarantine. The couple, who welcomed their daughter, Everleigh Jolie, seven months ago, is looking on the bright side of the unusual circumstances.

"For me personally, there's no difference between quarantine and being a new mom. I tell people I've been in quarantine since September!" Kruger jokes to Soaps. "I feel like Everleigh's missing out on a lot, but the truth is I'd have been back at work at this point. So the time that we get to be together as a family is important, and I'm breastfeeding and would have stopped by now if I had to go back to work. So I'm looking at the positives."

Adds Brooks, "We want to take Everleigh on hikes and stuff -- that's what we'd be doing on weekends when we have free time. And we'd planned to go to Hawaii [where I'm from] to see my family on spring break, and we can't. Kelly's mom lives [in Los Angeles] but works in a doctor's office, so we have to say 'hi' to her through windows and screens."

In addition to parenting, the couple is focusing on their next career steps while they wait out the pandemic. Kruger has kept active with her blog and essential oil company Madison Charles, and she's eyeing a return to Hallmark after having filmed A Very Corgi Christmas last year.

"Before getting pregnant I told Darin that all I wanted to do was the darker stuff, to go to those places as an actor -- and then I shot the Hallmark movie, and it was the most fun I ever had. We were laughing all the time," she shares of the experience. "For Corgi, I was early in my pregnancy with Everleigh, and everyone was laughing and happy and when I came home I said to Darin that all I want to do was Hallmark movies!"

As for Brooks, he's raring and ready to get back to work at B&B and has been keeping in contact with his costars as much as possible.

"Don [Diamont, Bill Spencer] is really funny, trying to FaceTime. I give him a hard time. Thorsten [Kaye, Ridge] called the other day. We're trying to do a Friday happy hour Zoom chat with eight or ten people, so everyone says 'hi' and gets to see Everleigh," he shares. "But we miss being on set and shooting. It's going to be so interesting to see what the new normal will be."
